EXPO ‘Romancing the Stone’ – Pieces of Eight Gallery , Melbourne (AU) – 9 juill.-17 Aout 2013

« Tessa Blazey: Romancing the Stone » - Pieces of Eight Gallery (Melbourne, Australia)

"Tessa Blazey: Romancing the Stone" - Pieces of Eight Gallery (Melbourne, Australia) 09-Jul-2013 - 17-Aug-2013 website: www.piecesofeight.com.au

‘Romancing the Stone’ is an exhibition exploring Melbourne jeweller Tessa Blazey’s ongoing love affair with minerals and gemstones. As she explains, “I am continually captivated by the exquisite geometry of mineral specimens. When I look at these crystalline forms I experience a shift in scale. Like Alice, I am transported down the rabbit hole into their miniature world. I imagine myself immersed in a diamondiferous landscape glinting beauty”.

In this exhibition Blazey explores the geometric structures and landscapes of crystal and mineral specimens through mimicry and transformation. Utilizing raw curiously cut and mounted stones she frames each piece to mimic the stone that inspired it. To individualise each piece within the context of its miniature wonderland, Blazey has personified each piece by naming them after an iconic heroine.

EXPO ‘Regine Schwarzer : Mineral Manifestations’ – Gallery Artisan, Fortitude Valley (Australia) – 20 Juin-3 Aout 2013

Regine Schwarzer : Mineral Manifestations

The work of Regine Schwarzer is influenced by the crystalline structure of rocks and minerals. Schwarzer cuts her own stones and uses the geometry of gems as a design element, but more recently she has begun experimenting with fusing crushed and ground minerals onto metal surfaces with base enamel. This exhibition is a collection of new sculptural forms that adorn both body and space, that showcase Schwarzers mastery of the mineral kingdon.

Movement, articulation and a nod to the historical reference to a reoccurring unit: the link. Or better than a string of pearls!
The results are as varied and imaginative as the makers, some are vibrant, others elegant and restrained with simple coloured lines. The artists have explored the theme in gold, titanium, silver, aluminium, glass, wood, recycled signs, all with an over riding link of movement as they beautifully fit the body.

EXPO ‘Jess Dare: The Nature of Memory’ – Studio 20/17, Waterloo (Australia) – 2-20 Avril 2013

Jess Dare: The Nature of Memory – Jewellery & Objects

Jess Dare detail http://studio2017.com.au/(Lampwork glass detail)

Jess Dare’s exhibition, ‘The Nature of Memory’ explores the fragility of memory through a series of delicate glass plant specimens. Her interest in our innate human desire to preserve the natural world is realized throughought this series of miniatures and wearable objects. “In this exhibition I aim to express the ephemeral nature of memory through the fragility of glass and nature itself.”
Dare’s work references the idea that life, like memory is fleeting and fragile. She laments that the beauty and detail is often compromised when trying to replicate the intricacies of natural forms, with the exception of the Blaschka’s hyper-realistic glass models in The Natural History Museum at Harvard University. These exceptional pieces of glasswork have strongly influenced Jess Dare’s practice to date and she feels a connection within this current series to the documentary detail of these botanical models.
The series itself is composed of objects and wearable items, miniature glass succulent forms that are silicon moulded and cast in silver; transforming the delicate, fragile glass with its lustrous colour into sturdy, cold and almost lifeless silver replicas. Jess Dare explores the botany of the mind, accentuating the transience of memory through her intricate and fantastical miniatures.

Melinda Young: The World Is a Pearl  – Studio 20/17 (Waterloo, Australia)

the world is a pearl continues Melinda Young’s fascination with the quirks of her immediate surroundings; the things and people that inhabit them. For this exhibition she has sifted through collections of domestic items and the materials in her studio – old ideas are revived, new jewellery has been born from the detritus of old work and discarded objects. The results are an intimate collection of works that are a meditation on the rhythms, repetitions and colours of daily life in the midst of Sydney’s urban sprawl.

EXPO ‘Prince Charming and The Palace of Happiness’ – Pieces of Eight, Melbourne (AU) – 12 Fevr.-24 mars 2013

Prince Charming and The Palace of Happiness

An exhibition by artists Tabea Reulecke, Maarja Niinemägi and Teresa Lane

Prince Charming and the Palace of Happiness Artists: Tabea Reulecke, Maarja Niinemägi, Teresa Lane Management: Melanie Katsalidis Place: Pieces of Eight Gallery (Melbourne, Australia) 12-Feb-2013 - 24-Mar-2013 website: www.piecesofeight.com.au mail: marketing@piecesofeight.com.au

« Love, loyalty, possession and desire have been expressed and signified in jewellery objects for thousands of years. What ARE our societal beliefs on romantic love here and now? What jewellery do we wear to signify our ‘romantic’” status – to promise ourselves to someone, to hold another in thought upon our body, to lure a mate or to outwardly express our inward, and often, private erotic desires? What jewellery do we imagine as women, as sensual beings, lovers with bodies, minds, hearts and desires, fears and acceptance? »

Jewellery artists Tabea Reulecke (DEU), Maarja Niinemägi (EST) and Teresa Lane (AUS) present Prince Charming and the Palace of Happiness, bringing together the subjective lenses of three women of different cultural backgrounds to convey reflections, representations and imaginings of romantic love in jewellery and objects. The exhibition draws upon historic and mythological archetypes, gently interrogating contemporary notions of Eros while teasing out the knots of foreplay and lustily engaging in femininity, fetish, sirens, sweat and sweet memories of those that have touched us.

Bloom and Blush
Peta Kruger and Kath Inglis
16th February – 23rd March 2013This is a colourful new collection of works by Adelaide based jewellers Peta Kruger and Kath Inglis. The artists have worked through their respective materials of metal and plastic to create wearable blooms of pattern and colour.Peta Kruger
ʻThe flora that I feel most acquainted with is not from nature but from decorative patterns found at home – on textiles, illustrations, ceramics, glassware and other costume jewellery, which make reference to their original source but grow and change over time with different fashions and materials. These motifs form the basis of a botanical collection of my own.ʼ-

Kath Inglis
ʻIn recent times, the carving tools that fit ever so well in my hands are often replaced with domestic tools. The steam iron, sandwich press and oven are ʻnew toolsʼ that offer new processes of heat and fusion to my work. Multicoloured collages of cut and carved PVC form into patterns of growth – a two-speed economy ranging from the curious growth-like plodding pieces to dynamic explosions of boom and bust.
