Lake Fortitude
-On getting some advice from wild animals by Lake Fortitude

October 15 – November 5, 2011
Vernissage on October 15, 13-16.30 everyone is welcome!
The jewellery by Gemma Draper is characterized by an artistic and philosophical approach. Her pieces can be seen as sculptural objects that invites dialogue and interpretation. By experimenting with material- and colour combinations she creates composite structures through poetic and abstract shapes.

LakeFortitude is a speculative work, where Gemma Draper explores doubt, opportunities, acceptance and escapism.

« When we try to answer the eternal question of what we want -and only have we become who we are because we have desired-, traditionally we have two forms of escapism. We can flee to the doubt about what we want, or we can escape that doubt. These two forms of doubt, these two shelters, coexist in all of us and it is not always so easy to separate them. And while they can never be found in their purest forms, our way of life makes it clear that we tend to be escape artists of one or other kind. » Adam Phillips « Houdini’s Box »

« I combine unexpected materials, symbols and moods in my jewellery to create and tell stories. I am not afraid of tackling the heavy topics in life, as well as the personal and the funny. I treat all my topics with respect and humour and they, in turn, are influenced by my own experiences and opinions.«

An exhibition about the grey spectrum – exploring both visual grey scales and the concept of a hazy area.
Experience the grey colours of titanium, steel, aluminum, fine silver, sterling silver, palladium and white gold.
An object series presents the leftovers from the working process of a jewellery artist: Metal scraps, filings, models, worn out tools, funding applications, project descriptions, crushed gemstones and failed products that did not meet the requirements of aesthetics, content or craftsmanship.
Other pieces belongs to the undefined stage between two positions for instance between jewellery and objects, between dye and mineral or between white and black.

CPH : DUCKS af Marie-Louise Kristensen

An alternative tale told in and around Copenhagen

EXPO 'CPH:DUCKS' - Goldfingers, Copenhagen (DK)- 9 Juin-9 Juill. 2011 dans Danemark (DK) 250583_196742027038769_100001089208634_551910_7976673_n

Copenhagen’s many towers and spires ….. a summer romance and the predictable break up ….. sensations and emotions…. paired with specially chosen places …. and a whole lot of road work…..
Characteristically, Marie-Louise’s work transforms the objects and the concepts that we are surrounded by into an original jewellery statement relating to the word around us.
The underlying humour invites an easy and immediate translation of the individual works. The complexity, the comment and the double meaning lie in the layers below.

Jewellery. Gold and glitter. All that glitters is gold. Even if it is made out of plastic and yarn or wood and phone books. What glitters is what you see glitter.
INSTITUTE FOR PRECIOUS METALS educates jewellery designers: Those that come up with the ideas for the jewellery you would want to wear tomorrow. Gallery GOLDFINGERS shows a varied choise of the student’s works.
Not a lot of wedding bands or floral brooches here. None, as a matter of fact. But loads of fun and serious jewellery, possible and impossible jewellery, crazy and sensible jewellery in almost every material ready for a finger, a head, a neck and a collar. Come and have a peek directly into here and now.
