« Dés 2009, elle a conduit une recherche et développé un travail autour des techniques de taille archéologique, c’est-à-dire celle utilisées à la préhistoire pour la fabrication des outils de pierre (la taille lithique donc). Ces techniques de percussion et de pression habituellement utilisées en archéologie expérimentale sur les roches dures (silex, jaspe, obsidienne…) ne sont pas explorées dans le milieu du verre. » (Pôle Bijou – article)

« Elle a … élaboré des «simulacres de diamants» à partir de miroir, qu’elle a baptisé «marionites». Ce travail de taille archéologique par pression à la pointe de cuivre est long, pénible et douloureux. Des éclats successifs sont enlevés par pression, technique qui demande écoute du matériau, gestuelle adaptée et acceptation de la pénibilité du travail. » « Elle aime à en dire « Ce travail est, en quelque sorte, une ironisation du luxe de la parure traditionnelle ornée de diamants ou pierres précieuses. Ici, pour conférer une valeur, il faut enlever, tailler, détacher des éclats pour montrer l’autre éclat : celui qui tranche, mais qui brille tout autant, d’une lumière minérale, élégante, détournée du tape à l’œil.Le miroir taillé opère en charmeur, il séduit l’œil et conduit le regardeur vers d’autres questions. » »

Set of Jewelry it’s a composition of objects in porcelain displayed on a porcelain tray.

Zhou YiyanComing from the province of Anhui in the east of China, Zhou Yiyan studied art and design at the Shanghai Normal University, and then worked as a graphic designer for four years before settling in Paris in 2007 to pursue her artistic studies in photography and fashion design at Berçot Studio.
She subsequently developed a collection of art objects in porcelain that are inspired by her fascination for circles in Chinese culture, and that are worn as jewellery. Each item is unique and created by the artist in a contemporary ceramics studio. Featuring glossy or matt enamel, gilded or left untreated, each piece requires a long period of design work and perfect technical mastery in order to adapt the artisanal processes of ceramics to suit the desired form.
In 2016, Zhou Yiyan was among the 5 winners of the Young Creative Craftsworkers Award, which has been run by the Ateliers d’Art de France since 1960 with a view to revealing new faces from the vanguard of crafts in France.
Also, last year, in spring, Yiyan was noticed by Esther de Beaucé who selected a dozen pieces for Yiyan ‘s solo exhibition :“Circles”, which was held at Esther’s MiniMasterpiece Gallery. The gallery also showed Yiyan’s work at PAD PARIS ART+DESIGN, and ART ÉLYSÉES Art & Design, along with pieces by contemporary artists and designers.
In these porcelain circles, inspired by the traditional circles of Chinese culture and embroidery rings, Yiyan metaphorically retranscribes the complexity of human society, of the ties between people which build into circles (family, friends…) She primarily reveals the joy that she experiences when she spends a full day in the company of the “soft and modest clay” which she discovered at the Manufacture de Sèvres.
Yiyan exhibits her works in international Fine Craft & Creation Biennial taking place in Grand Palais, Paris.

While most visual art can only be enjoyed through sight, jewelry not only invites but encourages touch. As makers create work, they engage with their sense of touch, making decisions about materiality, structure, and form that will later engage the observer’s sense of touch, communicating a host of sensations and feelings. A dialogue between the maker and the observer is thus built on the social language of touch.

« Marion draws her inspiration from the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. Today, her background as a sculptor in a bronze foundry deeply influences her approach to contemporary jewellery. She has been experimenting with a sculptor’s wax she heats up then twists and stretches to create stunning pieces later to be cast in silver or recycled gold. The result highlights the unpredictable nature of the warm wax as well as the spontaneity of her gesture and movement while letting the material express itself to its full potential. The perfect high polish of the inside of her rings creates a beautiful contrast with the matte finish and makes them very comfortable to wear. »

« Ringing The Changes is an exhibition of internationally renowned British jewellers designing distinctly modern rings, complimenting both the contemporary and the traditional. Striking rings for all occasions,  including bespoke wedding rings.
The exhibition includes 8 new designers, and new work from current Victoria Sewart Gallery designers. All specialising in rings made from a wide range of materials; traditional, contemporary, precious and affordable. Sustainability is important with the designers using materials that are sourced as ethically as possible. »

EXPO ‘TrèsOr’ – galerie de la Perle Noire, Agde (FR) – 15 Avril-14 Oct. 2017

TrèsOr, la nouvelle exposition de la Galerie de la Perle Noire du 15 avril au 14 octobre 2017

Cette exposition, présentée par les Métiers d’Art de la Communauté d’Agglomération Hérault-Méditerranée du samedi 15 avril au samedi 14 octobre 2017, met en scène un matériau des plus nobles : l’or !

L’or : élément chimique de numéro atomique 79, de symbole Au., du mot latin aurum. Jusque là, rien de très palpitant ni de vraiment inspirant… Mais si l’on précise que le plus précieux des matériaux aux chauds éclats de « petit soleil » est une matière lumineuse, pure, dense, inaltérable, malléable à l’envi et donc facile à travailler, on comprend mieux l’attrait des créateurs pour donner vie à cette exposition « TrèsOr ». Adoré depuis la nuit des temps, l’or incarne aussi bien luxe et convoitise que pureté, conquête suprême.

Au cœur de la cité d’Agde, la Galerie de la Perle Noire réunit à cette occasion une cinquantaine de créateurs, de France, d’Espagne et d’Israël, qui auront réalisé une pièce unique intégrant l’or sous n’importe laquelle de ses formes : feuille, poudre, plaque, mixtion, fil…

« I have been experimenting a lot with wax over the past two months. I heat it up in a pan until it reaches the perfect temperature then I twist and stretch it in order to get stunning textures. I love the unpredictable nature of the warm wax as well as the spontaneity of my gesture and movement. The wax cools down so fast that I have to work very fast! This process definitely allows the material to express itself to its full potential! The wax pieces have then been cast in silver, and these earrings have  just been uploaded onto my online shop!« 

// J’ai passé une bonne partie des deux derniers mois à faire des expériences avec de la cire : je la chauffe jusqu’à la température idéale, puis je l’étire et la torsade jusqu’à obtenir de superbes textures… Les pièces en cire sont ensuite fondues en argent. J’aime le côté imprévisible de cette technique qui m’insite à travailler de manière très spontanée et aussi très rapide car la cire refroidit extrêmement vite ! Les boucles d’oreilles ci-dessus viennent juste d’être finies et elles sont maintenant disponibles dans ma boutique !
