« ‘It is not the high cost of the material that makes a jewel valuable. It is up to the designer’s imagination and that of the person who possesses and wears it”, says Dimitar Delchev, Bulgarian jeweler and silversmith who will be exhibiting in Reverso as of May 22nd. In addition to jewels in traditional materials, Delchev will present in “Funny Things” a series of “objects for wearing”. These pieces are more like toy-jewels made from non-conventional materials which play with the idea of the value of the jewel concept and investment. They sell creativity and impress through it. »

Leonor Hipólito : Splendour of wearability
« The body, borderline of two worlds, the personal and the social, became along epochs the ideal platform where emotions, relations and stories are revealed.
In a language pliant to the needs of each culture jewels charm and reflect what each of us concedes as being precious.
Taking as a starting point works of the Museum of S. Roque the interest of this project lies beyond their splendour: in what they potencially reflect, giving space for new interpretations on usage and meaning in jewellery, offering views beyond the ornamental, where the body becomes performative. »
This exhibition had as curators Paula Crespo (Gallery Reverso) and Miguel Matos and Elsa Garcia (Umbigo Magazine). It has launched the series of activities commemorating the fifth anniversary of PIN – Portuguese Association of Contemporary Jewellery. The result of a challenge to all PIN members, on the theme Five Fingers One Hand, the exhibition shows the work of 12 Portuguese artists, selected by Reverso and Umbigo.

Guest artists include Marc Monzó, Catalan jeweler – invited by Paula Crespo, Portuguese fine artists Rui Effe and Carla Gaspar/Filipe Rego (Cíclope) – invited by Miguel Matos e Elsa Garcia, and Tereza Seabra and Filomeno Pereira de Sousa, honorary members of PIN.

« Pavel Opocenský is not only a highly esteemed jewellery artist and a well known sculptor, but also a great carver – rather a rarity in jewellery. This approach requires the artist to investigate the material, to imagine the invisible and make it perceivable, and last but not least, it demands enormous craftsmanship. In doing so, Pavel pushes to the limits, makes light penetrate hardness, a spectacle that does not just try to impress. His brooches convey unexpected depth; also the play of shadows adds new dimensions to the pieces. The forms remain reduced, with limited colouring, according to the conditions of the material. The beholder finds nothing additional, no decoration in his work. On the contrary, reduction is taking place; he carves out, bores out, files off. Through the artistic treatment, a perfect dialogue between form and material turns out. » (Olga Zobel Biró MA Galerie Biró, München)

Cet article pour exprimer toute mon admiration -et mon encouragement!- à ces jeunes et à leurs créations qui sont « notre futur » ! 
Le projet « Quand la pierre brute devient bijou ! » est soutenu par l’Union Européenne, à travers le programme Comenius. 8 écoles de bijouterie en Europe sont partenaires de ce projet pour engager leurs lycéens à un travail européen de prospection de minéraux ou matériaux bruts, de création de bijoux à partir de ces éléments, de rédaction de chroniques dans le journal lycéen Le Mur et sur les sites web. Une exposition collective itinérante présente chaque année les recherches et les créations de ce projet.
L’exposition est itinérante à travers l’Europe, et la première présentation a lieu au musée de la Cité de l’Or de Saint-Amand Montrond. Les pièces seront ensuite exposées en Belgique (Namur et Anvers, Février 2009), au Portugal (Porto, mars 2009), en Slovaquie (Kremnica, avril 2009), en Lettonie (Liepaja, mai 2009) et en Grèce (Thessalonique, juin 2009).
Pour la création de ces bijoux, les lycéens de chaque école ont prospecté des matériaux bruts dans leur propre pays :
Les lycéens français ont travaillé sur des silex prospectés lors d’une expédition minéralogique en canoë sur des îles au bord de la Loire.
Les lycéens belges d’Anvers ont travaillé sur des diamants bruts, et ceux de Namur sont allés dans une mine de marbre noir à Mazy en Wallonie.
Les lycéens du Portugal ont travaillé sur l’ardoise prospectée dans la Serra de Valongo,
ceux d’Italie dans les carrières d’ardoise de Gênes.
Les lycéens de Lettonie ont ramassé des morceaux d’ambre sur les plages de la mer baltique,
ceux de Slovaquie ont travaillé sur des quartz recherchés dans leur région de Kremnica.
Les lycéens grecs de Thessalonique ont prospecté des morceaux de marbre blanc sur les sites de Kavala et Thassos.
