EXPO ‘Sand’ – Four Gallery, Gothenburg (Sweden) – 12 Avril-25 Mai 2013

Classé dans : Catarina HALLZON (SE),Exposition/Exhibition,Gal. Four (SE),Suede (SE) — bijoucontemporain @ 20:13

‘Sand’ by Catarina Hällzon at Four Gallery (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Catarina Hällzon makes sketches with glue in the sand of the shores. In a playful and poetic way her gravel drawings turns into chain elements that are put together into wearable sculptures. By casting the grain she interrupts the movement and captures the shape. Four is looking forward meeting the summer with the exhibition Sand and Catarina Hällzon’s documentation of the shores of past summers.

I let the sand pass through my fingers, a transient form took off and I am trying to catch itCatarina Hällzon Jewellery sandnecklace

« Remembering the light playing in the sand as a child, the feeling of sand straining through my fingers…
I strain the sand between my fingers, drawing shapes with the grit. Passing forms appear and I am trying to catch them. I draw a shape in the sand; I draw it directly with what will hold them together. I document the movement in making, the very essence of a form appearing. I then link my drawings together, the links and the empty holes are getting wearable together.
I am trying to catch shapes on the move. By building and casting shapes out of sand and then unite them using traditional jewellery making techniques I formed pieces that for a moment is left for your imagination.
Capturing sand straining through my fingers. »

EXPO ‘Substance’ – Gustavsbergs Konsthall, Gustavsberg (Sweden) – 22 Mars-12 Mai 2013

Substance

Substance - Artists: Alexander Blank, Peter Hoogeboom, Hanna Liljenberg, Dorothea Prühl, Lucy Sarneel - Gustavsbergs Konsthall (Gustavsberg, Sweden) 22-Mar-2013 - 12-May-2013 website: www.gustavsbergskonsthall.se mail: info@gustavsbergskonsthall.se

The exhibition Substance, curated by Hnoss Initiative, presents five leading exponents in the international jewellery field: Dorothea Prühl, Peter Hoogeboom, Lucy Sarneel, Alexander Blank and Hanna Liljenberg. The first three have long enjoyed international careers while the last two come from a younger generation. What they have in common is their strong roots in specific materials as well as the fact that they have developed their own approaches to the relationship between material and ornament. Hnoss describes the theme in these terms:

“Artists often choose the material or materials that best enables them to describe or communicate what it is that they want to narrate in their work. This has been characteristic of the cutting edge of international jewellery design. Working consciously with a material comes naturally to jewellery artists. What the artists invited to take part in Substance have in common is the fact that they use and identify themselves with a profound knowledge of a specific material and, in a highly convincing manner, use the material to communicate. Certain artists have become almost synonymous with a particular material.

« In the beginning, a variety of many-coloured images of a city: meeting points, streets, people, blue skies, night and day. Staying in a playful mood, capturing the pulse, the movement, or the silence.
Sketching, cutting paper, creating a map of sorts in my studio, micro and macro at once as my perspective. Picking out colours, choosing materials, thinking about my purpose, reflecting on meanings and limitations. Giving each element its shape, assigning it a size and its place, connecting it further to circumscribe in to space.
Having it all transform into a necklace seemed only most obvious to me: no up, no down, playing around the neck, constantly finding new directions. Wearing the object, you become the inhabitant of the new place. «  Karin Johansson

Platina Gallery - Hanna Hedman Exhibition - Black Bile, Platina 31st of January-16th of March 2013

Hanna Hedman’s new group of jewellery specially produced for her solo exhibition at gallery Platina merge from aesthetics of loss, personal inner darkness, imitated nature and talismanic objects.

Blossoming sentimental flowers that imitate still life paintings become preserved into metal. Desiccated leaves form a hand that wants to hold on to you or a mask to hide behind. The work represent a frozen moment of decay; a preserved dark beauty that derives from the struggle of good and evil. Light and darkness are contesting one another. The jewellery wants to be beautiful on one hand, but on the other hand haunting and not even jewellery at all.

Materials: Copper, silver, leather and paint.

EXPO ‘FROM THE COOLEST CORNER’ – National Museum of Art, Architecture & Design, Oslo (Norway) – 19 janv.-21 Avril 2013

FROM THE COOLEST CORNER - Nordic Jewellery

from the coolest corner

From the Coolest Corner – Nordic Jewellery presents groundbreaking and fresh jewellery from Northern Europe, a comprehensive selection of current works by artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic States. The best and most innovative Scandinavian art jewellery is presented, assessing its possibilities and potential at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
The project presented in this publication, culminating in a symposium and a travelling exhibition, challenges stereotypical notions of northern European art jewellery. Do the typical Nordic trends of the nineteen-nineties still apply today? Indeed are there currently any general trends at all in Scandinavian design? Or has the orientation towards international design become so dominant that there are no longer any regional characteristics?
Renowned experts have made a selection of representative works, as a basis for researching the role of northern European jewellery in the context of international art.

With 160 works by artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic States, this publication considers the significance, strategies and trends of Nordic jewellery art in the early twenty-first century. Expert authors present the backgrounds, developments and characteristics of the contemporary jewellery.

Ashes and Diamonds is an exhibition that displays the works of 18 Finnish artists representing different areas of contemporary jewellery art and design.

The exhibition gives a comprehensive overview of the different techniques and materials used in contemporary jewellery design today, as well as offering insight into the meanings a piece of jewellery can carry. Besides the traditional materials of precious stones and metals, modern jewellery design also makes use of gypsum, coal, organic raw materials, recycled materials, and other materials traditionally considered to be plain.

The Ashes and Diamonds exhibition will be accompanied by workshops, pop-up shops and HomeShopping events, where invited guests get to hear the artists themselves talk about their works.

Ashes and Diamonds will run until 16 June at the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 Studio gallery.

EXPO ‘Sara Engberg: A Sense of Direction’ – Gallery Konsthantverkarna, Stockholm (SE) – 25 Aout-12 Sept. 2012

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,GALERIES,Sara ENGBERG (SE),Suede (SE),www Klimt02 — bijoucontemporain @ 0:04

Sara Engberg: A Sense of Direction

Sara Engberg: A Sense of Direction Stockholm Sweden exhibitions

In the centre of the room, the visitor is presented with three large, hand carpented boxes made of walnut wood, filled with jewellery pieces in pastel colors, dark red and gold—pendants shaped like imaginary islands with layers of compass roses and streamers, all hand cut from golden and smoke tinted mirrored plexiglass. The cartographic pendants are hanging from meticulously hand-stitched silk and cotton ribbons with map prints.
–I have picked up the materials I use all over the globe, sometimes in completely unexpected places, says Sara Engberg. I have been collecting for years, and gradually, I have discovered that I instinctively choose materials in a range of specific colours. I have asked myself where this palette comes from, and I think that it’s simply the colours of a map. It’s as if everything I like boils down to a map.
In this exhibition, Sara Engberg’s aim has been to recreate the feeling of a museum or an old classroom. Custom printed wallpaper lengths with inspiration from maps and streamers are suspended from the ceiling, reminiscent of old-fashioned school wall charts. All the maps and coastlines are imaginary; none of them are based on any actual geography. It’s a dream landscape, which also had its very first origin in a dream.
–As a child I once dreamt that I opened the window and the sky was covered with maps, says Sara Engberg. As if we were inside a terrestrial globe, lit up from the outside. I had this overwhelming sensation of beauty, which has followed me ever since. Maybe that’s where my fascination with maps started.

Sara Engberg has an MFA degree in Metalwork Design from Konstfack, the University College for Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Together with fashion designer Christina Wemming, she ran the collaborative jewellery and clothes brand mori & mimosa, which received attention especially in Sweden and Japan. Today, Sara Engberg has found her way back to a more artistic expression, working mainly with unique jewellery. She is a member of Stockholm-based crafts gallery Konsthantverkarna since 2010 and this is her first solo exhibition. Until the exhibition opens on August 25, anyone who is interested can follow Sara Engberg’s ongoing work and experiments at her blog: saraengberg.tumblr.com
