EXPO – John Iversen jewelry at ’28th Annual Smithsonian Craft Show’, Washington (USA) – 21-25 avril 201

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,Exposition/Exhibition,John IVERSEN (US),USA — bijoucontemporain @ 21:07

John Iversen was recipient of the 2010 Herbert Hofmann Prize during Schmuck 2010.
John says of his work and process : “To make beautiful and expressive work, my approach is the same, whether I am designing a one-of-a-kind piece or a production piece of jewelry. What distinguishes the production work is that the basic form can be reproduced. Then a lot of complex and intricate handwork goes into completing the piece. The actual concept for a new idea occurs in a split second. I draw a lot, which only leads to more ambivalence about the initial design. It’s at the workbench, experimenting with materials and technique, that the idea takes shape. The joy of designing comes from working out the technicalities of how a piece is put together or how to actually make something I visualized. I usually start a body of work very unconsciously with a very rough piece. It is just the spontaneous expression that matters”.

COUP de COEUR ! 2ROSES jewelry – recycle your electronic components !

2-Roses is a life long collaboration between Corliss Rose and John Lemieux Rose. Each is a master craftsman in their own right, and together they encompass a formidable range of expertise across a wide range of mediums

« We just hate to throw anything away. So there we were looking at a huge stack of old computer floppy disks. What a marvelous material this turned out to be. The disk part itself is a very tough and durable polyvinyl film that has an incredible reflective quality. This is the first design using this material, and we’re just getting warmed up. » (bracelet « Flipity Floppity » exposé à « paper or plastic » (Luke & Eloy Gallery) et qui m’a fait découvrir les « 2roses »)

« Hi Tek Mosaic » necklace- Sterling Silver, 24kt Gold, Circuit Board, Electronic Components

« Recycled electronic components (ie resistors, diodes, chip sets etc) combine to add color and texture to this necklace. Components are set on tubes of varying diameters and length. This necklace demonstrates what your cell phone, toaster, computer or CD player looks like when its turned inside out. «

« Resistor » Necklace  - Necklace of electrical connectors, gold accents & sterling silver with silver clasp

« This is the initial piece in the Hi Tek series, and the result of a grant we received from a large electronics manufacturer. The concept behind this piece addresses the transitory nature of value. The components used in this piece have a combined value of well over $10,000. Because they had been deemed « non-conforming » (they don’t meet specification) their value immediately became zero. By using the components in a piece of jewelry value is reinstated. Its all in how you look at it. »

On en revient au grand questionnement du bijou contemporain : quelle est sa valeur ? quelle est son rapport avec la/une valeur ???

« Polyvinyl Nouveau » Necklace – Recycled Plastic, Sterling, Bronze, Fabricated

« This was created while on a quest to making the ultimate macaroni necklace (!!). You know, taking the lowest material you can find, and doing something inappropriately extravagant with it. In this case, it is the ubiquitous white it is the ubiquitous white plastic grocery bag. The bags were cut and woven onto a sterling chain. This took a LOT of bags and about three months to complete. The black « thingys »(I believe that is the correct technical term) are copper wire coated with plastic dip. The centerpiece is cast bronze. Its a very comfortable piece to wear, but you gotta be ready for a lot of attention. » (and I suppose, a lot of sweat ! ;-) )

EXPO ‘Georg Dobler & Margit Jaschke new jewelry’ – Mobilia gallery (USA) – 12 mars-24 avril 2010

Georg Dobler & Margit Jaschke : New Jewelry

« The jewellery of Margit Jäschke exemplifies different, mutually inspiring artistic genres. Combining materials of different “value” from gold and silver to papier-maché, corals, rubber and glass, Margit Jäschke’s jewellery coalesces to ornamental pieces bearing an archaic touch or strangely symbolic works that are all governed by the ideal of “veracity”. With an eye for the detail, sensuous poetry and smiling irony, Margit Jäschke creates jewellery that tends to surprise, attracting attention and unfolding into fantastic idiosyncrasy »

Georg Dobler  - »Stag Beetle-shadow » brooch

« Georg Dobler … is a designer of wearable objects of an experimental character. In all his work one can see signs of his reflections on nature, art, and design. With great persistence he constantly examines these three components, the ways that they interconnect, and also their autonomy from one another, tending sometimes more towards the one pole or to the other, and occasionally emphasizing a point in a highly provocative way. Apart from a sheer delight in experimentation, he has always succeeded in expressing his unconfined pleasure in creating beautiful items of jewelry. » (Eva Maria Hoyer, Georg Dobler: Schmuck 1980-2000)

« Narrowing the gap between valued possessions and discarded objects is the focus of Robin Quigley‘s latest series of work. REMAINS is an exploration of the unexpected effects that time can have on both the living and the inanimate objects that  surround us.  In this collection of one-of-a-kind pieces, the artist makes use of reclaimed materials including plastic, steel, rubber, wood, resin, glass – even animal bones.  It is through this diverse mix of media that Quigley creates her figurative tableaus and non-representational compositions. REMAINS is considered by the artist to be a natural outgrowth of her previous collection, which she called « FLASHBACK » – an investigation of memory and the passage of time. With REMAINS, Quigley shifts her focus to the present and contemplates what « remains », both literally and figuratively. »

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,Gal. Loupe (US),Noam ELYASHIV (US),USA — bijoucontemporain @ 4:21

Noam Elyashiv explores correlations and interactions between line, plane and volume through the composition of her form-related jewelry.

« For several years, I have spent the summer in Ballycastle — a small village in county Mayo, Ireland. While there, I take pictures, write and draw. I use color pencils: whites, greens, blues, yellows and reds. It is the beauty and the peacefulness of the place: the people, the air, the light, the structures and layout, which this work is derived from.  »
