#MunichJewelleryWeek2017 – EXPO (9) – ‘Off The Shelf’ / Central Saint Martins – Vitsoe, Munich (DE) – 4-14 Mars 2017

(9) Off The Shelf

work by staff and students of Central Saint Martins, BA Jewellery Design course.

9 Off the Shelf

Off the Shelf is an exhibition of work by staff and students of Central Saint Martins, BA Jewellery Design course. For a second year running, the designers are delighted to be returning to show at Vitsœ in Munich. The exhibition follows on from a series of projects where staff and students have displayed their work together in a celebration of the diverse and lively approach to contemporary jewellery and objects.
BA Jewellery Design approaches the subject of jewellery as a conversation between body and object, with originality and innovation at its heart. Based in the centre of London, we enjoy superb links with industry and encourage our students to engage with the wider social contexts of their work while developing their own creative practices and a diverse set of technical skills.

#MunichJewelleryWeek2017 – EXPO (69) – ‘Light Matters’ – Erco Showroom, Munich (DE) – 9-11 Mars 2017

(69) LIGHT MATTERS

Opening Fri 10.03  18:00-20:00

(69) Light matters
Six jewellery artists and Erco, together in a show reflecting on why LIGHT MATTERS. Unique jewellery pieces interact with innovative illumination in order to create a new subject full of possibilities for interpretations. The viewer is swirled into a game of light and shadow, material and ephemeral, handmade and digital. The silent dialogue between these two realities create an intricate scenery.

(53) DICOTOMIAS

Jordi Aparicio and Jorge Manilla

Opening Thu 9 march, 13:00–18:00

(53) DICOTOMIAS

This exhibition is a visual dialogue between the artists using the idea of dualities. We invite people not only to see our work but also to analyse, observe, feel, think and discuss without it being a didactic exhibition. We want to create an approximation to the textures, colours and emotions caused by the pieces. We are interested in how people connect visual aspects to personal feelings of memories. People usually think about things in black and white, but we want to know where the middle point is… this exhibition will show emotional and visual confrontations with multi-categorical pieces.

Hatara Project started in 2015 as a collaboration between Annea Lounatvuori and Christine Jalio. The name Hatara, from the Finnish hattara – cotton candy – describes something dreamy, sweet and concrete but eventually fragile. Hatara is a meeting point between jewellery artists that have different backgrounds and come from different countries. It’s a connection, an exchange of culture, an experience and knowledge. Now we are 14 women from Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Germany, Japan, France, Australia and The Netherlands.

During SCHMUCK 2016 : EXPO ‘SPECIALS, HandShake Alumni exhibition’ – Einsäulensaal, Munich (DE) – 25-27 Fevr. 2016

SPECIALS, a HandShake Alumni exhibition
21 jewellery artists from New Zealand

#42

Celebration day (artists present) 25.02 14.00 – 16.00

SPECIALS, a HandShake Alumni exhibition #42

SPECIALS, a HandShake Alumni exhibition features twenty one jewellery artists from New Zealand showing at the Einsäulensaal in the Munich Residenz Palace from 25 – 27 February 2016.
Peter Deckers has curated a special selection of works and projects from the HANDSHAKE programme. This one-off exhibition showcases the best work from the 12 national and international exhibitions over the last 5 years.

The HANDSHAKE Project is an art development programme for progressive ideas, making, presentations, feedback and networking for contemporary New Zealand jewellers.
The project began in February 2011, with emerging jewellers matched in mentoring roles with their chosen idols from all across the globe. Each mentee’s development was not only supported by their mentor but also through a series of workshops, masterclasses and most importantly, exhibitions in prestigious galleries in NZ and beyond.
The HandShake project will begin its third iteration (HandShake3) following the SPECIALS Alumni exhibition. Selected jewellers have been chosen from the first two projects to develop new bodies of work for a fresh series of international exhibitions, with a focus on collaboration in its broadest sense. The purpose of this HS3 programme is to allow the former mentee to become an independent artist, steering their own developments. The mentor now becomes a colleague and in most cases also a fellow art collaborator.

Shelf Life shows work by 33 makers, staff and students of Central Saint Martins, BA Jewellery Design course, showing for the first time at Vitsœ in Munich, this is the second project where staff and students display work as equals in a celebration of the diverse and lively approach to contemporary jewellery and objects. Within the breadth of possibilities, the common thread of the course is using materials and objects imaginatively and expressively in response to observations, emotions and situations.

with :   Elena Bonanomi — Caroline Broadhead — Season Cheng — Lin Cheung — Olivia Cosh Hall — Lucie Davies — Naomi FilmerMelanie Georgacopoulos — Rosie Greener — Emily Grimble — Katy Hackney — Lily Harte — Stacey Huang — Jieun Kim — Giles Last — Fan Sze Li — Holly Matthewson — Marlene McKibbin – Maria Militsi Akiko Shinzato — Ella Stern — Esna Su — Yuxi Sun — Florance Tebbutt — Anna Tuhus — Juliette van de Kerchove — Misha Venter — Max Warren — Silvia Weidenbach — Scott Wilson — Jennifer Wong — Scarlett Zhang — Hau-Wen Chien — Juliette van der Kerchove

The concept of Shelf Life is apt for this exhibition, in that it is located within the shelves of the Vitsœ showroom, using the relationship between the shelf space and the works placed on them to reflect on issues of temporality and endurance.
To shelve means to put something aside, to discard, to remove from everyday use. In contrast, we use shelves to display, as a way to draw attention to and highlight things of importance. What do we keep on our shelves? How long do we keep them there? How does the shelf life affect the thing produced? What is life like to live on the shelf? What is life beyond the shelf? Are just some of the questions we can ask.
Some of the work displayed has been made in response to projects, some self-motivated, and some in response to the idea of shelves.

The basis we work to is that jewellery is a microcosm through which to explore and express responses to the world. The course values an open-minded approach, experimentation and risk-taking, along with the more traditional skills. And we encourage jewellery design to be explored, questioned and tested out in a number of guises and contexts, with skill and imagination.
Having the chance to show work from novice and veteran practitioners, from either end of a career path, is a valuable one. It demonstrates a continuity of the subject; how ideas are taken up, reworked, tussled with and how new ideas take hold. Shelf Life gives us the opportunity to celebrate the work of staff and students and which reflects some of our diversity and achievements. / Caroline Broadhead, Course Leader of BA Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins

We are often amazed and charmed by the many different ways individuals and organisations wish to use Vitsœ’s shelves. But then this versatility is not surprising, as the 606 Universal Shelving System was designed to be discreet and to allow the content to speak.
The vibrancy of thinking and experimentation explored by the staff and students of Central Saint Martins, BA Jewellery Design course is both energising and brave. It feels natural for Vitsœ to support, both in the physical and literal sense, as this body of work challenges our thinking of how we use our shelves./ Jennie Moncur, Creative Director at Vitsœ

Using braces and snap hooks, her pieces echo masculine construction tools and attire, fashioned in contrasting materials such as dusty pink suede and flashy gold metal. This transforms the concept of unfashionably dull hard labou: Fan Sze Li

TROPHIES // IN THE REIGN OF COYOTE
The hunt is a ritual; through gathering, searching, and collecting we create amulets, myths, and trophies. The works of these jewelers are rooted in these traditions; they look to nature and translate what they see.To hunt is to gather, to search, to collect. Through hunting, making, the weaving of stories, we are able to resist modernity’s denial of belief, and to keep our ties with the natural world. There is a primal, universal longing for myth, for an understanding of the immeasurable power of nature, and an allure in conquering, transforming, becoming. The hunt is a ritual, a way to insert ourselves into an ages-old cycle. In hunting we take on the role of maker, turning one thing into another. In making we are shamans, translating worlds, perspectives, identity. These jewelers distinguish themselves through their sensitive treatment of nature. Their work utilizes the material language of the trophy through the use of animal imagery and materials. The transformations they wrought, and the stories they weave, set them apart from other makers and unify them through aesthetic and conceptual application. In the Reign of Coyote references a collection of stories about the earth’s becoming, fables of animal and human relationships. The work of these artists looks back to a time when we, as humans, turned directly to nature for guidance, sustenance, and support.
Jane Dodd (NZ) - Jane Dodd
Jane Dodd works in metal, wood, bone, shell and makes pieces that investigate storytelling and narrative. She is particularly interested in exploring a dialogue between nature and culture.
Marta MattssonSwooping work by Märta Mattsson  for TROPHIES
Märta Mattsson « Märta Mattsson   sees beauty in things that other people find strange or are even repulsed by. She becomes fascinated when there is something you do not want to see and by the feeling you get when you do not want to look at something, yet you still do. Her jewellery deals with the tension that lies between attraction and repulsion. »
Sleek work by Tanel Veenre Jewellery for TROPHIESSleek work by Tanel Veenre  for TROPHIES
Tanel Veenre Tanel Veenre ‘s jewels take one on a journey that starts from the depths of the sea, continues on through coral reefs, past dancing sea horses and then on to the cultivation of silkworms. The voyage ends in a cosmic cloud.
Dark work by Lore Langendries for TROPHIESDark work by Lore Langendries for TROPHIES
Her research interests include the interaction between craft and industry, between unique and serial with a particular focus on (re)production, digital technology, tactility, the behaviour of materials and the subjective role of the maker. In her recent series, Hunacturing, Langendries is questioning the nature of reproduction via a combination of natural materials, mechanical treatment and the human touch.
 Aliyah Gold - Aliyah Gold
Animal imagery and animal-based materials have been used in jewelry dating back to the first civilizations. Gold challenges herself to create jewelry that contains the essence of an animal rather than merely a representation.
 Mallory Weston (USA) Mallory Weston
She works with a variety of medium including metal, fiber, concrete, and spray-paint creating bold, compelling, and interactive wearable art. Currently, she is exploring snake imagery, symbolism, and serpent dichotomies within
her work.
Steven Gordon Holman Steven Gordon Holman
he grew up in the West Desert (USA) where he developed a close relationship to the natural world. His work is invested in material and myth, both cultural and personal. Through the building of these myth he creates artifacts and amulets of The Tribe
 Anna Talbot Anna Talbot
Anna Talbot’s jewellery is inspired by fairy tales, nursery rhymes, songs and stories. Wolves, deer, trees, forests and Little Red Riding Hood are all central elements in her universe, and they don’t necessarily stick to their traditional roles.
