Tal Efraim - Color of stones - There are so many theories about the different gemstones that can be set in a jewel. The luck they bring, the energies.. I have even been told I shouldn't be wearing a certain stone because of the month I was born in. I believe the right stone is the stone that makes you feel the best version of yourself out there. Today it can be rubies, tomorrow blue sapphires and next week it just has to be an amazing green emerald Tal Efraim - Color of stones –

#MunichJewelleryWeek2017 – EXPO – ‘Abruptions – Jorge Manilla’ – 84 GHz, Munich (DE) – 11-13 Mars 2017

AbruptionsJorge Manilla

Opening Friday 10th of March, 6 pm - 10 pm

« Like so many things in life, it is more about the journey than the destination and, it seems that people can find and appreciate these struggles and emotions in the finished pieces. »

( Jorge Manilla - Necklace: The damages never forgotten, 2017 Leather, steel. 52 x 20 x 7 cm)

« Trying to find the answers about why the last time I am often overcome with waves of different emotions.
I decided to make work as a kind of personal emotional archive to read and understand this feeling in a different way.
These moments are very unpredictable and very often take me along very unexpected paths that can go from the desperation to the calmness, from the nostalgia to the happiness I have more and more the feeling I need to express something and using materials, shapes, textures, colours, emotions, feelings as tools try to make individual small stories and even when this confrontation is not easy I don’t want to lose the ability to be comprehensible to any sensitive people.

I often worry that people is indifferent to this kind of expressions in art and refuse to experience purely emotional response to purely visual, static artistically expressions in this case my jewellery pieces. Doing this personal archive, I want to create images that I think will trigger the people with their feelings, images of personal experiences, memories of pleasure of maybe memories of pain. And I enjoy of my work adding visual elements that confirm messages of create confrontations. I like to do and show the process of the work and the making, some pieces looks like not finished, the Intime moments in the studio that can show that making this kind of work can be very hard and mentally draining.
Realizing this made me feel a little more relaxed about wasting my life creating jewellery pieces. Like so many things in life, it is more about the journey than the destination and, it seems that people can find and appreciate these struggles and emotions in the finished pieces. I want to abrupt the general feeling and discover new messages on it, I want to abrupt the materials and create my personal way of communicate, I want to abrupt my emotions and let me go to a new dimension of feelings.« Jorge Manilla

Opening Fri 10.03  18:00-20:00

(69) Light matters
Six jewellery artists and Erco, together in a show reflecting on why LIGHT MATTERS. Unique jewellery pieces interact with innovative illumination in order to create a new subject full of possibilities for interpretations. The viewer is swirled into a game of light and shadow, material and ephemeral, handmade and digital. The silent dialogue between these two realities create an intricate scenery.

Scandinavian studio jewelry is inconceivable without her and her works. As early as the beginning of the 1960s Tone Vigeland’s jewelry objects were routinely included in what are today legendary publications and exhibitions, such as the International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery held 1961 in the Goldsmiths Hall London, which first familiarized the public with the emerging art style of studio jewelry. Now, to mark her 80th birthday, Die Neue Sammlung is devoting its first solo exhibition in Europe outside Scandinavia to the grand dame of Scandinavian studio jewelry – 50 years after Vigeland’s first solo exhibition in 1967 in the Kunstnerneshus in Oslo.

With their flowing shapes Tone Vigeland’s pieces generally fit snugly despite being made of metal. Vigeland oxidizes the light shiny silver until it is as black as iron. Through contact with the skin the silver regains its play with the light, and lent and dreamt of metallic color variations. Every piece becomes individualized through virtue of being worn. Though they stand out for their size and volume, the objects consist of an incredibly large number of tiny hand worked parts – minute pipes twisted from silver wire, precisely cut rectangular and round discs or tiny pellets and rings – so cleverly joined together as to be invisible to the naked eye. Tone Vigeland’s art on the body appears simultaneously modern and archaic.
About the artist:
Born 1938 into one of the most famous artist families of Norway Vigeland’s artistic training began 1955 at the Statens Håndverk-og Kunstindustriskole Oslo (today Kunsthøgskolen in Oslo, National Academy of the Arts). To learn goldsmith work she moved 1957 to the Oslo Vocational School. In 1958 she joined the avant-garde artist cooperative Plus in Frederikstad, where several of the works she designed as a student were produced in series. Earrings worked from a single silver loop, whose restrained simplicity and linearity was typical for the style in Scandinavia after World War II, were successfully produced until 1985. In 1961, Tone Vigeland opened her own workshop, and began producing one-offs. Since then she has produced many world-famous items of jewelry which have been honored with numerous distinctions. These are now on show for the first time in a solo exhibition featuring 150 of her works.
In a high-profile exhibition in Galerie Riis 1995 in Oslo, Vigeland took an important step into a different dimension – namely art in architectural space – and simultaneously a move away from decorative art that cites the human body. This move from the body to free space seems a huge one, and yet was quite a logical step for Tone Vigeland.
The very highest distinction have accompanied the artistic oeuvre of this extraordinary Norwegian artist: the Prince Eugen Medal from Sweden in 1988, appointment as Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1996, the Anders Jahre Art Prize and in 2008 she received the Golden Ring of Honor from the Association for Goldsmiths’ Art in Hanau.
The exhibition was realized with the kind support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Berlin, the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Munich and the Danner-Stiftung, and in cooperation with Norwegian Crafts, Oslo.
In January 2018 the exhibition will be on show in Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim.

Julia Obermaier« My main subject is about private space. If someone is crossing the borders of my spaces without permission, it causes a bad feeling. I try to protect them as much as possible, but in daily life, one cannot always keep direct surroundings and personal space in their preferred way. Our outside world is always in relation with each other and our circumstances.
I create in my pieces rooms, containers, boxes or little caves. These spaces can be filled with ones own personal feelings, perceptions and sensations. I see my work as containers protecting the innermost emotions of the viewer or wearer, that they use to confront a busy world ».

Discovered when the Final Project Presentation 2016 at Shenkar

« By documenting details such as day-to-day mechanical joints, swivels, hinges and physical connections of objects in my sketchbook, I create my own private alphabet, which will later be transformed into the language of my designs.
My pieces are all one of a kind – whilst I can make to order any piece several times, each will be a little different due to the nature of handwork and craft.

« Are other areas besides jewellery, present in your work?
My most recent collection Connectionary consists of handmade porcelain, treated as gemstones. Creating these porcelain centre pieces allowed me to explore the world of ceremic art and ceramic production. In general, my inspiration derives from day-to-day mechanical joints such as swivels, hinges and physical connections of objects, meanings I often explore different areas as part of my design process. » (Klimt02 interview)

EXPO ‘Look What I Did. New Rings by DOT’ – Villa Bengel (DE) – 7 Dec. 2016-7 Mars 2017

Look What I Did. New Rings by DOT

opening Wednesday, 7th of December 2016 from 18 h

Look What I Did. New Rings by DOT 07Dec2016 - 07Mar2017 Villa Bengel Idar Oberstein, Germany

The exhibition shows works from DOT, a recently graduated student of the Masters programme from the Hochschule Trier.  After his graduation this spring, he startet to make a collection of rings, questioning his own and the wearers identity. What is male, what is female? What role plays the artistic expression? And who is the « I » in DOT, who made these Rings?

Exhibition display. - DOT MELANIN rings: Exhibition display. – DOT MELANIN rings

« While viewing the rings you recognize a gender study. Both feminine and masculine forms are expressed by inner containing worlds, of phallus and aggressive forms. A combination of gemstones and metal connect to each other by layers and phases.
Metal that heals a wounded stone, a setting that simulates a gemstone to the human mind. Within you see a complexity of materials, colour and size that creates a sculptural object, however still maintaining its original function as a ring.
