« A research within the unexpected, using the unfamiliar characteristics of materials. Leaving space for the surprise … sometimes receiving answers without asking questions. The objects are trying to be part of an imaginary world, where ‘things’ can decide when to go on, what to become or who to be owned by and not the other way around. Attempting to show beauty beyond ‘injured’ surfaces, they are able to find the familiar look that sees and the words that say something about them. »

« It is important for me to stretch the idea of beauty, to put the eyes of the viewer to a more complex task, where it is essential to look and feel at the same time, to notice the hidden aesthetics of an injured or worn out surface and to consider the impossible possibilities that the ‘rebirth’of an object can offer. They are part of a world where objects can decide what to become and who to be owned by. They are words in a ‘distinctionary’.« (Flora Vagi)
« The way I see the changes in our times, the objects around us are taking over. We have more and more things around us, more and more things that are not necessary. There are two groups I would divide the future of objects: the digitalized environment and the most essential recreated (or recycled) objects. Things that are there to serve us, and things that please us.
I would like to create a body of work, a group of objects that are ornaments of a person and a person’s home that reflect someone’s (in this case my) intimate world and intuitive choices. The pieces I have been making so far have always evoked memories and emotions in the viewers although there is no direct information given on where they come from. It has been instinctive of the viewers to feel attraction and sensations. I would like to recreate this with more intensity and find the connection with the viewer in a direct way through the work.
Having a jewellery background, I put a lot of emphasis on objects that are intimate and meaningful to their owners who carries them. Derived from the experiences I had in the contemporary jewellery world I am planning to make a range of very personal wearable objects and also to create small scale sculptures that are to be kept in a more intimate home environment.« (Flora Vagi)
