Juan Harnie 'Aesthetical Injection' - Brooch Juan Harnie ‘Aesthetical Injection’ – Brooch

Designing this collection Juan Harnie used medical materials to create attractive, floral looking jewellery. Juan has always seen beauty in materials that have little to no aesthetical value to others. These materials in particular are usually linked to unpleasant situations like hospitals and doctor visits, but now they are taken out of this context and made into uncanny pieces of jewellery.
Juan got his inspiration from flowers and plants, which always seem to please the eye of the beholder. Even when a plant or flower turns out to be hazardous, poisonous or possibly deadly, at first people will always attribute positive feelings towards seeing them. Contradictory, syringes that are designed to administer medicine and in fact heal people are met with fear, disgust and a general feeling of unease. Using these syringes in colourful, floral pieces of jewellery, mimicking the shape and colour of the ever-so-loved flower, might just make people reconsider their initial feelings towards syringes and see the beauty the designer saw in them.
In addition to the syringes, sterile medical gauze is used to imprint the silver backs of the pieces. This medical gauze once again fulfils its original purpose: being worn on the body and thus soothing an inner ache.

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 1 – Marion Lebouteiller – ABSOLUT (no, it’s not about vodka ……)

Marion Lebouteiller   new works

« I have been experimenting a lot with wax over the past two months. I heat it up in a pan until it reaches the perfect temperature then I twist and stretch it in order to get stunning textures. I love the unpredictable nature of the warm wax as well as the spontaneity of my gesture and movement. The wax cools down so fast that I have to work very fast! This process definitely allows the material to express itself to its full potential! The wax pieces have then been cast in silver, and these earrings have  just been uploaded onto my online shop!«

« Conceptual art jewelry from re-purposed metal, wabi-sabi and organic nature. »
LOVE this WILD aspect of her jewelry !!! ……….

Some new work that will be at « Wild Women Wearable Art » and « One of a Kind« .  (One of a Kind, The Mart, Chicago, IllinoisThe 2nd annual Spring Show returns April 28-30!)

« I make my jewelry from metal I find at the thrift store, silver plate trays, brass and sometimes bits and pieces I find while on walks. There is always a bit of rusty bolts and stuff in the bottom of my purse! I love to transform something others thought had no value into wearable art jewelry, you should see what I do with PVC I find from the street. »

Roxy Lentz earrings - processRoxy Lentz Jewelry  – process – The earrings with the first fire patina. If I wanted to keep these just like this, I would have to use cold connections. But, for these earrings, I need to shape them and fuse the ends together, so, some of this will go.

Roxy Lentz earrings - processRoxy Lentz earrings – process – The finished earrings. I filed the edges, fused the ends with small bits of silver, and used a wire brush to put a sheen on the surface, and to remove the grime that happened when using the torch. Since I put the torch on the back side, I did preserve some of the beautiful « orange peel » on the front. Now, I could leave these like this, or take a chance and put them in a pickle pot to make them silvery. I like the patina, and I think my customers do too. That beautiful gold sheen on the right side of the right earring, it did it all on its own, that is why these are one of a kind, and uncommon jewelry for independent women.

Roxy Lentz - The finished earrings Roxy Lentz Jewelry  the finished flower earrings. I used silver wire to cold connect the flowers to their base to preserve the patina. You can see that the base metal of this bowl was brass, because of the soft gleam on the edge of the flowers. After soldering on the post I put the brass base in pickle to clean the post, then I put it in a rinse of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar to clean the fire scale off the brass. Some more buffing with a brass wire brush on the flex shaft. The earrings are about 2 1/2 inch long, and 1 1/2 wide. There are some similar at In Tandem Gallery and Gaia in Winston Salem NC.

Artist Statement
The extraordinary power of objects is obtained, because people believe in them. The more mundane the objects are, the more powerful they become.
My practice contextualizes the primitive energy that is submerged beneath the layers of garments. When the body is removed, the absence becomes an empty structure. The internal structure is evidence of human existence. It remains full of authentic spirit and fantasy.
Through the processes of deconstructing and reconstructing materials into symbolic forms, I uncover the hidden intimate and sensual power of humanity. It is a moment when ordinary objects become surreal and uncanny in order to redeem the socially constructed expectations and perceptions.

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 1 – Rafael Luis ALVAREZ – KOSMOS en el Museo José Hernandez en Buenos Aires (Argentina) – 10 Fevr.-13 Mars 2017

Rafael Luis Alvarez (ARGENTINA)

COLECCIÓN KOSMOS,UNA COLECCION DE PINTURA, DIBUJOS, FOTOGRAFIA Y JOYERIA

Museo José Hernandez en Buenos Aires (Argentina)

Inauguracion Viernes 10 de febrero 2017 18:30 hs
Rafael Luis Alvarez - KOSMOS, UNA COLECCION DE PINTURA, DIBUJOS, FOTOGRAFIAY JOYERIA:

Isabel Tristan - PLATOS - Proceso I - 2016 Isabel Tristan – PLATOS – Processus I – 2016

Sébastien Carré - Lost Paradise(Lost) Paradise, with Sébastien Carré  – « OGHAM INCENSUM«
« Just imagine… Living in a world in which we would not have destroyed our relationship to nature. In which, the society, the moral, the value or our belief would not have put us in a virtual cell. A world of difference, of similarity, of ambiguity but after all isn’t it what is making a more interesting world. Vegetation, Animal, and Mineral are all combined in objects reminiscent of organic forms, the shape of the central figure in all form of shamanism around the world, the Tree that connects us all together. Mixing materials in order to create a symbolic life in an object by using interactive mediums allows me to wake up a body which tends to be more insensitive due to an over-communicativity of society. Let’s hope for a world with more shamanism, more bound between all living forms. Let’s Cherish the diversity in our small world, being together is already a treasure. »

 Jessica MORILLO / ANSIOSA HORMONA

Jessica Morillo - CORAZA/

CORAZA/ foto: Julio Gutierrez -

aprende a estar sola,

She just had an exhibition, Unexpected, since  NOV 24th 2016  at Craft Council of British Columbia‎ Gallery, 1386 Cartwright Street, Granville Island; Vancouver V6H 3R8 – An Exhibition by the Vancouver Metal Arts Association

Unexpected explores the strange and sometimes discordant elements that make the viewing, wearing, and making of Contemporary Jewellery an enjoyable endeavor.
The unexpected and Contemporary Art Jewellery are by no means strange bedfellows- viewers and wearers of Contemporary Jewellery often seek out our discipline because it is unusual and extra-ordinary. The unusual, and unusual elements and materials, have become de rigueur in a creative world that continues to embrace post-disciplinary art practices which move beyond medium centered approaches to making.
Participating artists: Lydia Buxton — Melissa Cameron — Bridget Catchpole — Barbara Cohen — Jennifer Crupi – Yoshie Hattori — Kyri Hinkleman — Holland Houdek — Karin Jones — Joshua Kosker — Matt Lambert — Andy Lowrie – Jacqueline Lung — Brooke Marks-Swanson –  Sharon Massey — Louise Perrone- – Lissy Selvius — Jina SeoAric Verrastro — Kari Woo — Lawrence Woodford.
