EXCHANGE-BIJOU 1 – Lidia PUICA, an organic world of colours & shapes

Lidia Puica , un jour de « red envies« , comme on grapillerait une poignée de fruits rouges, de « red berries » …..

« Lidia Puica: ‘I like to have no limits in what I do«

In 2009 Lidia Puica graduated from the Univestity of Decorative Arts and Design in Iasi (Romania) with specialization in Environmental Design, then she completed a Master at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), exploring the contemporary jewelry. After graduation in 2011, she was devoted to jewelry made of unconventional meterials, especially those crocheted. Lidia creates statement pieces with organic inspiration using free technique in crochet exploring shapes and volumes. In this way, the jewelry gets the value of an art object, being associated with some crocheted sculptures.

« I find it a wonderful thing to use traditional techniques or ‘grandmother hobbies’ to materialize new ideas. It seems the trend for handmade products is global, and Romania is no exception. In Cluj, I have made many friends who are passionate about crafting and managed to make beautiful collaborations with some of them. I have noticed that in Transylvania, the focus is on traditional techniques and materials, and that people are quite open to crafting. »

COUP de COEUR / COUP de BLUES : Inbar SHAHAK

Classé dans : Inbar SHAHAK (IL),Israel (IL),SHENKAR (IL),techniques textiles — bijoucontemporain @ 22:50

Inbar Shahak and her « textile » jewelry

Kibbutz honours textile tradition. The jewellery of Inbar Shahak is a tribute to women who for centuries have woven and decorated fabrics following techniques and traditions that have remained virtually unaltered. Shahak copies the patterns and transfers them to metal. “In this way one pattern can produce an entirely different design by using a different material”, Shahak explains

For the « Fauna & Flora » collection 2015 : « The whole world to me is made out of textile, this grey word that we don’t seem to think about much represent all aspects of our life. Starting from our very own clothing and going up to industrial product for space. Textile to me is the ancient work of the woman, in some culture it is their only way to express themselves or even to make their living. It is often a Sisyphean work that requires observing and inner listening, and that is very distinctive to the rhythm of the industrial world that we are living in today. »

EXPO ‘Beyond Textile’ – Galería CONTEXT, Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona – ES) – 19 Fevr.-21 Mars 2015

Apertura – Opening, Jueves – Thursday, February 19 at 19:30 h
BEYOND TEXTILE - 18 Jewelers from Argentina 2015(Alejandra Koreck – broche « La Dicha II » – plata, rafia sintètica, paper)

BEYOND TEXTILE, gather a series of jewellery pieces made by eighteen Argentine designers. This is a series of works that, even if they have Contemporary Textile Jewellery genre as a reference, their aim is to trascend it and venture outside their limits using heterogeneous expressive resources, diversity of criteria and wide variety of materials and techniques implemented by different authors. However, what remains as a unifying criterion is the relation -sometimes conflicting- between Contemporary Jewellery and the diversity of techniques resulting from textile design.

selected for SCHMUCK 2015 : Kazumi Nagano

Classé dans : Japon (JP),Kazumi NAGANO (JP),papier / paper,SCHMUCK (DE),techniques textiles — bijoucontemporain @ 2:22

Kazumi Nagano is an artist reaching back to ancient traditions and reinterpreting these in a contemporary form. Her work is still very much influenced by Nihonga, a technique that she studied during her university years. This is a traditional Japanese painting technique involving the use of rock pigments deriving from natural minerals. She makes use of colour as she would in painting, although the techniques to achieve the effect are different. She employs the weaving together of strands of metal such as silver and gold, silk, nylon and Japanese paper thread, to create different colour and texture patterns. The skilful use of this technique gives a refined quality to the pieces. Nagano conveys delicacy to her works by means of creating soft shapes. Interesting and unexpected effects can be produced by making woven material into three-dimensional shapes and by the sequence of colour combination, light and shade. The suppleness of the pieces facilitates interrelation with the human body and makes them all the more appealing to touch. Her pieces are very intuitive and are the result, at times, of a mere feeling. (Alternatives gallery)

She graduated at the Tama University of Art, Tokyo, obtaining both a BA and an MA in art. Her jewellery career began in 1996 after having studied under Minato Nakamura. In 2002, she was awarded fine works prize in the Japan Art Jewellery Competition, Tokyo. Her works are part of the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, UK and the Alice and Louis Koch Rings Collection, Switzerland. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions and craft shows internationally, among which SOFA in Chicago and New York

EXPO ‘Beyond textile – 21 jewelers from Argentina’ – Galerie help u zelven, Winterswijk (NL) – 27 Avril-24 Aout 2014

Beyond textile – 21 jewelers from Argentina

Curator: Luis Acosta

Beyond Textile - 21 jewelers from Argentina - 27-04/24-08 2014

This exhibition gathers a series of pieces produced by twenty-one Argentine designers.

It consist of a variety of works that, even if they have contemporary textile jewelry genre as a strong reference, they often transcend it and play with its borders and limits using their own individual expressive resources.

Thus, we can see how shapes, textures and colors are expressed in a variety of materials and techniques in which also arises the peculiar relation notions on the human body as a carrier, in some cases, since there are pieces that step aside from this requirement of traditional jewelry´s typical function: be worn by someone.

Maria Tsimpiskaki « from Greece with love », découverte à JOYA Barcelona 2012 ….. découverte … et adoptée !
Son nouveau travail, intitulé « Interlaced 2012« , est au 1er coup d’oeil très « classique », mais mais mais …. à y regarder de plus près …. les jeux de lumière dans/à travers la matière …

« I think of jewelry design as a combination of line and color and material that is each time the result of a given frame of mind, of different mental and emotional states.
It is the lines and forms and shapes that we encounter all around us in the natural world, in the street, or in everyday life, or even in the images these trigger in the mind …
The colors that are inherent to the materials, almost invariably requiring special processing before they are revealed  …
And finally the materials themselves, whether luxurious, or humble, complementary, or disparate, or ephemeral, worked by hand using traditional and modern techniques to produce a range of unique pieces.
My aim is to create jewelry that is flawless in terms of construction and finish, perfectly fitting the human anatomy so that it becomes an essential and cherished accessory, setting off the personality of the wearer. »
