piece I have made for Gill Wing Jewellery’s Summer exhibition BEYOND THE BLUE.
The ring has been cast from wax into recycled sterling silver and then I have set an azurite drusy on the side. I had the opportunity to go to London to visit the exhibition last week and it was amazing! More than 50 pieces of BLUE contemporary jewellery made from 50 international artists are exhibited until the end of August. If you happen to be in London, it’s really worth to head to Islington to have a look!  For details on how to get there click here

INSPIRATIONS… Pierre SOULAGES

Marion Lebouteiller - INSPIRATIONS... Pierre SOULAGES

« This month I have been looking a lot at Pierre Soulages‘s work and it deeply inspires me. Pierre Soulages is a French artist born in 1919 who is known as « the painter of black ». Painting with black enables him to bring light into his work. « He sees light as work material; striations of the black surface of his paintings enable him to reflect light, allowing the black to come out of darkness and into brightness, thus becoming a luminous colour ».
Although I use a completely different process and material, the texture I get on my jewellery by stretching the wax resonates with his textures. What I see in his work and what I tend to do in mine is trying to make a shape or create a feeling that the piece has been made within seconds, in one breath. Even though the technique I am using is very difficult to achieve and that it takes a lot of practice and patience (!) I want to show something effortless that praises the instant gesture.
Do look further at Pierre Soulage’s work on the internet, you will be astonished by the quality of his work and look also for his early prints… real gems! »

EXPO ‘Look What I Did. New Rings by DOT’ – Villa Bengel (DE) – 7 Dec. 2016-7 Mars 2017

Look What I Did. New Rings by DOT

opening Wednesday, 7th of December 2016 from 18 h

Look What I Did. New Rings by DOT 07Dec2016 - 07Mar2017 Villa Bengel Idar Oberstein, Germany

The exhibition shows works from DOT, a recently graduated student of the Masters programme from the Hochschule Trier.  After his graduation this spring, he startet to make a collection of rings, questioning his own and the wearers identity. What is male, what is female? What role plays the artistic expression? And who is the « I » in DOT, who made these Rings?

Exhibition display. - DOT MELANIN rings: Exhibition display. – DOT MELANIN rings

« While viewing the rings you recognize a gender study. Both feminine and masculine forms are expressed by inner containing worlds, of phallus and aggressive forms. A combination of gemstones and metal connect to each other by layers and phases.
Metal that heals a wounded stone, a setting that simulates a gemstone to the human mind. Within you see a complexity of materials, colour and size that creates a sculptural object, however still maintaining its original function as a ring.

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,Italie (IT),pierre / stone,rings,Sergio & Stefano SPIVACH (IT) — bijoucontemporain @ 21:45

Founded in 1981, Spivach & Spivach Opals are brothers Sergio and Stefano, top quality opal cutters. Based in Udine-Italy, this family-run artisan opal cutting studio has been handed down by their devoted, loving and talented father Luciano.
The diffusion of the opal in Italy in the last 30 years has its roots in the history of Spivach &Spivach. Constantly improving and enriching their skill and expertise to the highest possible standards, they have also with time developed a solid network with Australian opal miners. These respected and tight relationships have been built on trust.
It is with experience, passion and skill that the opal is taken from the mine through to the cutting process, whereby Sergio & Stefano transfer not only their expertise but also their themselves.
Spivach & Spivach opals can be found in the jewellery and art pieces of the best Italian and European goldsmiths and jewellery designers.

Sergio Stefano Spivach acido - scultura per la mano Sergio Stefano Spivach    acido – scultura per la mano

Sergio and Stefano begin their work with a very clear philosophy in mind – nature creates, man brings those creations into light and puts value on them – without abusing nature, with respect.
Spivach & Spivach opals are mostly Australian. In most cases the type of work which is used on each stone has already been decided based on the quality of the opal itself. However, there are times when the cutter’s instinct takes over and he subverts the « written rules ».

EXPO ’100 Rings with Atelier Zobel’ – Patina Gallery, Santa Fe (USA) – 15-31 Aout 2014

100 Rings with Atelier Zobel

Artists: Peter Schmid, Atelier Zobel

Peter Schmid - Ring: Platinum and Red Diamond Ring – Platinum, 925 silver, red-brown diamonds

Santa Fe – Santa Fe’s Patina Gallery is thrilled to celebrate its 15th anniversary this August with a very exceptional exhibition. Titled 100 Rings, the exhibition features works of the renowned German jewelry studio, Atelier Zobel. 100 Rings promises just that, 100 of the Atelier’s most beautiful rings in oxidized silver, high karat gold and platinum.
Traveling from Germany, artist Peter Schmid will be in the gallery to share his magnificent jewelry. This will be Atelier Zobel’s 13th exhibition with Patina Gallery. When asked how he feels about being the exclusive jewelry artist exhibited at Patina this year, Schmid replied, « I love it! Is it really a question? I’m totally honored! It is exceptional for all these years to be so well represented. I always love to come to Patina. »
Atelier Zobel’s first exhibition with Patina Gallery was held in August of 2000, when the legendary Michael Zobel was the creative heart of the studio. His ecstatic works of contemporary jewelry have influenced artists the world over. The Atelier’s signature combination of oxidized silver and 22k karat gold is emulated by many but the artistic depth and sophistication of these works has yet to be approached.
These refined and wearable precious works of art transcend jewelry as ornament. Metals are applied with a painterly sweep. Diamonds seem dusted into place and carved gems offer sculptural relief. Today, the Atelier continues to re-imagine what jewelry can be.
Gallery director Ivan Barnett selected Atelier Zobel for the gallery’s 15th anniversary year because of the valued and long standing friendship that the two share. « Peter Schmid has carried on the amazing Atelier Zobel tradition seamlessly with fresh personal style, sophistication and taste. »

Nora Rochel: Ashen Lights - 18-Jul-2014 - 05-Sep-2014

Ashen Lights
Do we need new materials and decorative elements in jewelry, or is it still enough to shape metal in new ways to attract attention?
Embracing lost-wax casting as her key technique and silver in its purest form, Nora Rochel immerses herself in a delicate, miniature world and crystalline shapes reminiscent of moonlit landscapes and star speckled skies.
The pieces in this collection will draw the eye, leading to new discoveries about the essence of form and matter.

EXPO ‘Claudio Pino : Power of Rings’ – Galerie Meister und Margarita, Frankfurt (DE) – 14-21 Juin 2014

« Claudio Pino : Power of Rings » – Galerie Für Schmuck Meister und Margarita (Frankfurt am Main, Germany)

"Claudio Pino: Power of Rings" - Galerie Für Schmuck Meister und Margarita (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) 14-Jun-2014 - 21-Jun-2014
This solo show presents over 30 one-of-a-kind sculptural rings designed by Claudio Pino and also questions the unique Power of Rings. Whether worn daily or on special occasions, rings are the most common and evocative pieces of jewelry, wrote Rachel Church. Rings are very personal and embody symbolic meaning. They can be worn as protective talismans or simply as beautiful, precious accessories. What, then, makes a ring so powerful, even in contemporary times? Of course, we cannot disregard our past if we are to understand why rings remain so important in our culture.
From ancient Egypt to the twenty-first century, their long, rich history is intricate and fascinating. Rings endure as objects that have direct connections to our body language and serve as a reflection of our appearance and style. They may also recall memories of our loved ones and represent victories, and their vintage surfaces project unmistakable power.
