Born in Germany and based in Brussels, Belgium, Ute van der Plaats has worked as a jewelry designer since 2009. In addition to contemporary jewelry, she has a passion for graphic design and ceramics, and her latest collection combines these three disciplines. A few years ago, she discovered porcelain—the white gold—and fell in love with it. Since then, this pure material has become the starting point in the creation process of her jewelry collections. She is attracted by its translucent white color, the fragile appearance that belies a surprisingly solid character, and the almost sensual texture of unglazed porcelain. By integrating different materials, such as 3D-printed ornaments and digitally designed images, into handcrafted porcelain creations, she translates traditional jewelry concepts into contemporary pieces

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 2 – Tal EFRAIM – Connectionary

Tal Efraim

Discovered when the Final Project Presentation 2016 at Shenkar

« By documenting details such as day-to-day mechanical joints, swivels, hinges and physical connections of objects in my sketchbook, I create my own private alphabet, which will later be transformed into the language of my designs.
My pieces are all one of a kind – whilst I can make to order any piece several times, each will be a little different due to the nature of handwork and craft.
»

« her work is driven out of her sketchbook, where she documents the world around her, creating a « dictionary » of design possibilities. Her work is made of gold, silver, porcelain and a variety of gemstones. »

« Are other areas besides jewellery, present in your work?
My most recent collection Connectionary consists of handmade porcelain, treated as gemstones. Creating these porcelain centre pieces allowed me to explore the world of ceremic art and ceramic production. In general, my inspiration derives from day-to-day mechanical joints such as swivels, hinges and physical connections of objects, meanings I often explore different areas as part of my design process. » (Klimt02 interview)

Anne DINAN

« (My) inspiration is nature and industry combined. What have we done? »

(SURTOUT en écoutant « I‘m calling you » !!)

« What piece or work has given you the most satisfaction? « As part of my collection Connectionary, I designed a broche titled Heart. SOFA Chicago 2016 – Special Exhibits : Art and Wine: Gioielli in Fermento – 3-6 Nov. 2016

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,Gioielli in Fermento (IT),Salon,SOFA Chicago (US),USA,VIDEO — bijoucontemporain @ 23:03

 SOFA Chicago
2016 Special Exhibits :  Art and Wine  Gioielli in Fermento

Inaugurazione – VIP Admission opening : Giovedì 3 novembre alle ore 18
La mostra prosegue negli orari di apertura della fiera fino al 6 Novembre.

Gioielli in Fermento at SOFA Chicago 2016

Gioielli in Fermento is an international exhibition project and award for contemporary studio jewelry. Starting from the landscapes of Italy in the winemaking region of Emilian hills, it opens its borders, inviting established and emerging artists from every country to express their relation with the wine world. Inspiration, dedication, experience, research, innovation, observation, choice, challenge: these are all elements of the creative approach that we can use to focus both on the activities of a jewellery artist or those of a winemaker. Both a piece of jewellery or a sip of wine are evocative of the individual interpretation of the raw material chosen by their maker. In both cases, the aim is turning the natural into something precious and unique.
Since 2011, six editions including more than 300 artists and their works have been presented under the selection of an international board of advisors in the field, with the kind collaboration of AGC Italian Contemporary Jewelry Association, Charon Kransen Arts, Klimt02 network, Joya Barcelona and Torre Fornello Winery.
A collection of work from the 2016 edition with a selected number of iconic pieces from previous editions will be presented in this Special Exhibit.

Presented by Gioielli in Fermento, Ziano Piacentino, Italy; curated by Eliana Negroni, curator, Gioielli in Fermento.

I would like to tell here all my admiration for the energy and all the efforts & work done by Eliana Negro,i ! APPLAUSE !!!

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 1 – Yiota VOGLI – Thoughts like birds will always hover high in the sky …

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,EXCHANGE-BIJOU,Grece (GR),SOFA Chicago (US),VIDEO,Yiota VOGLI (GR) — bijoucontemporain @ 0:50

Yiota Vogli  is not new on my blog, you know her !
She is not a new « discovery », une « DECOUVERTE », but she is still, and always!, a « COUP de COEUR »  :-) , as you can see on my last post where we could discover her « SUMMER WHITES » she did for the Athens Jewellery week, during summer 2016, « COUP de COEUR : Yiota Vogli, layers of paper, layers of MEMORY ….«  , but she is a little like Lucky Luke, doing new jewels faster than her shadow !!! ;-)
So here are her last creations we had the pleasure to discover at last JOYA Barcelona 2016 : the SHADOWS collection

« SHADOWS ,
We are aware of a tiny fraction of the thinking process that goes on in our minds, and we can control only a tiny part of our conscious thoughts. The vast majority of our thinking efforts go on subconsciously. »

Yiota Vogli - Shadows collection at JOYA 2016Yiota Vogli Shadows collection at JOYA 2016 – birds ….

« Shadows’ 2016, this body of works is the embodiment of a fantasy world populated with shadows, exotic birds, grotesque demons and fairies, an exploration of the aesthetic and literary values of such creatures and the real and symbolic nature of the shadow as an image and a figure. Thoughts like birds will always hover high in the sky but it is our responsibility to prevent the ‘birds’ from landing in our minds. Those creatures become symbolic statements and represent obsessions, our ideas and fears or projections of our subconscious. Based on this approach, they are merely symbolic representations of human psychological states. »

« Vegetation, Animal, and Mineral are all combined in objects reminiscent of organic forms and landscapes. Mixing materials in order to create a symbolic life in an object by using interactive mediums allows me to wake up a body which tends to be more insensitive due to an over-communicativity of society. Time is an essential aspect of the work being made. Through the moments spent making, wearing and connecting with people, I find deeper connections. It is an immaterial patrimony that I am trying to spread in order to make us realize how much we are all bound together. When conceiving and making work I put meaning in every shape, every color, every texture. Each part is meaningful in my own mythology that I decided to express through visual language, not with words. One particular collection is made of the filmstrip that, was likely, played in the theater I frequented as a child. Through this work, I decided to use the filmstrip as a universal symbol of connection within each culture and focus on the importance of that in our society. Celebrating diversity will make us grow. In the story of the living, if no cells decided to mix and cooperate instead of trying to destroy each other, life would have never grown to produce human and our own self. Let’s Cherish the diversity in our small world, being together is already a treasure. » photos: Milo Lee Photography
