EXPO ‘LUDUS GEMMARUM part II’ – Luís Comín-joieria creativa Gallery, Barcelona – 10 Dec. 2014-7 janv. 2015

LUDUS GEMMARUM part II Exhibition

opening of the exhibition on 10th December at 7pm.

Ludus Gemmarum Part II by Lluís Comín and Montserrat Lacomba Exhibition / 10 Dec 2014 - 07 Jan 2015 -

The exhibition, Ludus Gemmarum, showcases creative works by Lluís Comín and Montserrat Lacomba exploring themes of memory and landscape.  A single collaborative brooch, ‘Trapped Cloud’, blends each artist’s unique aesthetic and unites the individual series of works on display.  This piece is a synthesis of both worlds with fragments of nature and memory forming a composition with soft volumes and strong contrasts.

Lluís Comín presents ‘Mosaic de la Memòria’
“An attempt to reconstruct with crumbs of what we remember and feel; the memory as the symbol of what we are and of what we have to protect.”

Montserrat Lacomba presents ‘Dels Paisatges’
“I think to find a way but the forest has its trees tell me no.”
From the book, Pagèsiques, by Perejaume.

EXPO ‘WWWA’ – Estonian Museum of Applied Art & Design, Tallinn (EE) – 7 Nov. 2014- 18 Janv. 2015

WWWA [Words & Works from a World Away (Sõnad ja tööd sealt kaugelt)]Estonian Museum of Applied Art & Design
A collaboration of Estonian and Australian jewellery artists
WWWA - estonia
OPENING 7 november 2014 – 5pm
Kuraator: Claire McArdle

What do they say about us on the other side of the world?
And what do you know about them?
This exhibition unites the northern and southern hemispheres through the work of jewellery and object artists from Australia & Estonia. In each country statements were collected from ordinary members of the public about their knowledge and opinion of the other country. Each artist chose a statement about their country from someone on the other side of the world. The piece they made is a reaction to this statement.
Words spoken across the globe invite a personal study of our own culture and a reaction to other’s perceptions of who we are. Each piece is a navigation of an outsider’s perspective and the resulting realisations and revelations about our own identity.
The two cultures have been explored through unverified perceptions and understandings. The resulting objects are repositories of both cultural and personal narratives. They examine the global flow of information between two physically and culturally separate countries and provoke an international exploration of self.

Gigi Mariani, the 2011 Torre Fornello Award and featured in all editions of Gioielli in Fermento, was appointed as Guest Artist for the 2015 Edition of JOYA Art Jewellery Fair and selected for Schmuck 2015

« With my work, I try to transfer every day emotions into contemporary jewellery and unique pieces in a simple, informal and spontaneous way. This allows me to develop new situations and the art appreciators to develop feelings from these situations. My goal is to move from the concept of simple jewellery, to a larger concept of sculpture and art piece. »

« I have always been fascinated by the infinite potential that metals offer and the opportunity of transforming their original properties and aspect in order to stretch the scope of what can be achieved.
I avail myself of antique goldsmith techniques that have almost fallen into disuse, such as niello and granulation, personalizing them in order to give my work a distinctive character. I work with precious metals, combining them with other metals such as iron, copper and brass.
I apply niello to the surface of the metal so that it is completely covered. In this way, the preciousness of the metal disappears leaving way to a dark, rough surface. Through the use of heat, I achieve cracks and clots resulting in surfaces that seem battered and ill-treated, resembling ancient relics.
My work is based on spontaneity and instinct. I try to transfer everyday emotions into my jewellery in an impulsive way. This method allows me to develop works that are unique and sculptural. I endeavor to use the same sort of approach as I do when painting and often treat the surface of the metal as a canvas. This instinctive approach is counteracted by the precise, geometric forms that I use, whereby everything seems to be brought back into place. »

EXPO ‘DUST INCLUDED’ – Ubi Gallery, Beijing (CN) – 25 Sept.-17 oct. 2014

Ubi Gallery - DUST INCLUDED precious particles and gruesome grit in applied arts

Opening party Sept 25 | 15:30-17:30

Ubi Gallery - DUST INCLUDED

the events taking place in Dashilar during Beijing Design Week, Ubi Gallery’s minimalist and stylish interior provides a calm sanctuary. This year, the gallery presents DUST INCLUDED, a thought-provoking exhibit of contemporary jewellery, ceramics and lifestyle goods, showcasing the work of 13 artists connected to China and The Netherlands.

DUST INCLUDED explores the theme of dust and pollution in Beijing and other megacities. Visitors are confronted by Joke Schole’s angry bear, who proclaims, ‘Clean up your own mess’. Other artists such as Liang Li treat dust as a byproduct of human failure, incorporating it into her work as an ‘Award for Bad Conduct’. Hortense de La Jonquière’s masterpiece—a cabinet constructed of Beijing dust—shows how dust captures memories, reminders of things past. Prominent milliner Elisabeth Koch adopts “crust” material used in environmental cleanup to create hats intended to deflect dust on a daily basis. The Dutch design collective of Eva de Laat, ByBorre and the University of Eindhoven propose futurist clothing to shield those living in polluted urban environments. Visitors will also find limited edition collector’s items and affordable gifts commissioned for the exhibit, as well as a portion of Ubi Gallery’s permanent collection.

And of course we have many jewellery artists during DUST INCLUDED!

Chuang Han-Chieh made a collection called ‘Red Brick’, using enamel, silver, copper, paper, gold dust and brass dust. It is a celebration of the beauty of traditional skills and materials and an honor of the farming villages, the foundation of the Taiwanese economy. Tired from the busy urban life abroad, the artist felt a strong emotional connection with the opposite, the relation between people and land and the relation with her own tradition. She tries to overcome the risk of a sentimal journey where the beauty of the simple farming life is romanticized. Chuang Han-Chieh is too much of an artist to let this happen. She didn’t give in on the composition, the use of material and technique. You can see two strong, contemporary and independent pieces as a result.

Junjin Wu  made this collection of necklaces especially for DUST INCLUDED.
« Dust has everything to do with the origin of life on earth. Through gravity things will become dust and life and memories will break down and grow into something new. The artist Junjin Wu prepared pendants to showcase the magical transformation. She used canvas, dust, soil, wood and horn. Natural materials tracing forgotten pasts and pointing to new futures.«

The Taiwanese artist Ying Hsun Hsu shows brooches made out of iron flakes, using magnetic power. For her capturing changes in time, the wear and tear of normal things – the deformation and shrinkage, the historical evidence is essential. The vulnerability of the imperfection is awesome. Hsu records the memories of the invisible, before things crumble into dust

KLIMT 02 GALLERY Daily Delicious - Feast of Today/ Gésine Hackenberg

As a part of the group of works exhibited, Klimt02 Gallery presents 2 pieces specially made by Gésine Hackenberg for us, the necklaces French Beans II & Plum.

The exhibition is part of the events at OFF Joya, organized during Joya Barcelona fair 2014.

« Fruit and vegetables are one of mankind’s fundamental foodstuffs. They are associated with one of our most primary daily needs – eating – and are therefore closely connected with people. What is more, they stimulate and beguile the senses. These qualities are also essential in jewellery.
The intention of my jewellery is to represent fruit and vegetables’ relationship with people and their bodies. Everyday contact with these natural products – shopping, peeling, preparation and eating – serves as the chief source of inspiration. The sensual pleasure entailed in these acts invites us to celebrate the little things in life, playing with fruit and vegetables and adorning ourselves with their splendour. Translating fruit and vegetables into jewellery conjures up images from art and the decorative arts: images of luxuriance and profusion, of harvest festivals and traditional adornments. Classic ornamental motifs such as the Horn of Plenty are juxtaposed with my own contemporary context of daily life.
In the execution of this work, the emphasis lies on the human perspective and constructed nature, made of thin copper sheet. The copper colour ages over time and references the idea of growth and ripening of the fruit and vegetables. These fragile constructed copper objects are then reinforced through electroforming techniques that again, enhances the idea of growth« . Gésine Hackenberg
