à SCHMUCK 2016, le groupe « Dialogue Collective » proposait « By Royal Appointment » :

DIY, Installation, 2015. We have all probably worn a cardboard crown at some point in our childhood, and we all probably have the desire to be bestowed with a crown of regality on occasion. In the latest works by David Bielander this crown is accessible, camouflaged as the role-play headdress of the kindergartener within us. "Our perceptions are based on our conceptions of what is familiar. If a shift in the normal context of something occurs, it can trigger a shock to our understanding, forcing us to examine the object in a manner completely new to us. Things don’t remain the things we perceive at first glimpse. The Cardboard works materialize the ambiguity, the multifaceted nature of things. STEFFI GÖTZE

Well … I knew yet Steffi Götze jewelry, loved it yet (her 2014 « In Between » collection), but I think this year was the « coup de coeur’ year » ! ;-) all these whites & light blue-whites ……. hold in these black prongs, structures for the « anima », open windows on imagination, on dreams ….. « la page blanche » ….. the white sheet where ALL can be written ….
Welcome to the « Inside outside » collection.

« My work is an experimental and personal dialogue with poetry, intuition, the conscious and the unconscious, culture, experiences, emotions… I communicate the basic human emotions and memories through color, textures and narrative objects. My work is like a souvenir one takes home from a trip abroad, allowing oneself to return to the moment of purchase and be flooded with all the memories.
My jewelries are wearable life stories. »

 » Perception is the interpretation of what we take through our senses. The way we perceive our environment is what makes us different from each other. I am interested in the connection of two concepts, the Inside and the Outside, and the undefined space in between of them. There are thousands of stimuli and experiences that come from the outside to touch our inside, like fragments of a puzzle. The way we put them together is what makes us unique »

Nelly Van Oost - UNION -

Each of us forges links with someone, it is hard to explain how, yet the experience sounds so simple, natural. Between Nelly Van Oost and Jose Bravo, it just clicked, the connection was immediate: an artistic and human love at first sight. As if their paths were meant to cross. Working together sounded obvious to them. Their universes of creation complement each other and make them crossing their artistic limits.

UNION was born from this need to work together. Since August 2012, they have been exchanging, building up dialogues between photography and contemporary jewellery. Each of them, through their own specialty, values this connection. For «RENCONTRES», their first project, Jose Bravo spent 10 days capturing moments of Nelly Van Oost’s everyday life and from these pictures and time spent together, Van Oost created jewels.  In June 2014, the Spanish photographer once more entered Nelly’s universe in order to carry out the project «INSTANT». The process reversed since the latter invited him to take an artistic look at some moments of exchange during which jewels are transformed through a physical (and human) exchange between two people.

For this new step in their collaboration, Nelly Van Oost and Jose Bravo want to make the most of a place and give the opportunity for the public to discover their work. Their exhibition will be articulated around several modules, unveiling their common as well as their personal work. The theme of union will be explored to the full extent.

The SCHMUCK is an international exhibition that has been taking place in Munich for more than 50 years. It combines works of established artists and promising newcomers in the area of contemporary jewellery design and is the meeting place for collectors, jewellery lovers and museum curators from Germany and abroad. Organized as a worldwide contest, the works are chosen by an internationally renowned curator each year, this time by Eva Eisler, professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD). “Presenting works at the SCHMUCK is an honor for any jewellery designer“, says Dieter Dohr, Management Board Chairman of the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH. That is also why this time, more than 600 gold smiths and jewellery designers from Germany and abroad applied for the special show. In spring 2015, contributions by 63 artists from 21 countries will finally be on display. This time, Karel Novak from the Czech Republic will be honored as the classic of modern art. Highlight of the SCHMUCK will be the awarding of the Herbert-Hofmann-prizes on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at 5 pm on stage in hall B1. On this day, a jury will select the three best works of the SCHMUCK. Each year, a number of accompanying events group around the special show at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich galleries, museums and cultural institutes.

EXPO ‘Destination SCHMUCK’ – Ligsalzstr. 27, Munich (DE) – 17-20 Mars 2014

SCHMUCK 2014 – Munich – 12-18 Mars 2014

Destination Schmuck’ is the first show held in Munich by the ‘Made to Make’ collective, having first exhibited during Schmuck 2013 with the online show ‘Matching Items Available’. ‘Destination Schmuck’ will showcase new work created in response to the theme of  Travel by the participating artists.

EXPO ‘Destination SCHMUCK’ – Ligsalzstr. 27, Munich (DE) – 17-20 Mars 2014 dans Allemagne (DE) VIhhgqe2WqtDestination SCHMUCK -Photo de Farrah Al-Dujaili.

“With the growth in popularity of the Internet and social media within the art jewellery world our work ‘travels’ across the virtual world everyday. You are able to recognise a piece of work or a face of a jeweller you have only ever seen on a computer screen. Those jewellers and their work congregate yearly in Munich for those few days of ‘Schmuck’. Initial virtual connections of Like’s, Tweets and Pins are turned into tactile experiences and burgeoning dialogues.”

Members Farrah Al-Dujaili and Natalie Smith have taken on the role of curators for the show. ‘Made to Make’ collective is proactive in creating opportunities and platforms to display our work and engage with the jewellery community at large. By undertaking collective briefs that question, confront and push conceptions of jewellery we aim to ultimately invigorate our individual practices. Each member’s work exudes craftsmanship, imagination and creative ingenuity distinctive of the art jewellery approach.

The private view will be held on Thursday 13th March and the show will run until 16th March.

EXPO ‘Staring : in HINDSIGHT’ – Die Neue Sammlung (Danner-Rotunde), Munich (DE) – 14-20 Mars 2014

SCHMUCK 2014 – Munich – 12-18 Mars 2014

Staring : in HINDSIGHT / SUNY NP METAL

Vernissage 14 Mars, 19 Uhr

STARING: The State University of New York at New Paltz

THE METAL PROGRAM AT THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK AT NEW PALTZ IN COOPERATION WITH DIE NEUE SAMMLUNG – THE INTERNATIONAL DESIGN MUSEUM MUNICH

Designed in response to the physical space that houses the exhibition, in Staring is an exercise in looking, finding, seeing and knowing.
This gallery, informally referred to as ‘under the stairs’, is an interstitial space – formed by the galleries that surround it. It is a negative of a positive, the leftover from a functional form. It lies in-between, forming the way one considers what lies on the other side of the concrete divide, what is revealed and what is hidden. As the risers and runners of multiple staircases surround the viewer, form becomes rhythmic, linear texture, closing in underfoot and overhead. In this space one is simultaneously astonished, disoriented, and mystified. While not originally conceived as an exhibition space, through imaginative thinking it became so.
As a marginal space it is not confined by traditional boundaries or conceptions. This notion of working the margin is akin to the creative strategies taught at New Paltz. Students are expected to engage the traditions of jewelry and hollowware, working within the field’s “architecture”, but not to mimic it; in dialogue through making they question function, value, and relevance to our somatic, conceptual and incorporeal experience. We look backward and forward at the same time, challenging and promoting the practice of making.
Provoked by the space itself, we ask the viewer to consider what it means to be ‘under the stairs’. In a domestic setting it is a space to keep things that are only used occasionally, or perhaps forgotten. It is a psychic space, the space of the Odradek, a space where fear of the unknown is manifested. Within this space discoveries are made, surprises can be found, and occasionally we lose even ourselves.

DIE NEUE SAMMLUNG

Talk on 16 March, 11 Uhr : Pravu Mazumdar: Understanding Surfaces. On Jewellery and Identity.
Pinakothek der Moderne. www.die-neue-sammlung.de

Human surfaces are hybrid objects involving biological and cultural elements like dress, makeup, jewellery, gait, skin, posture, voice. Contemporary societies manifest not only surfaces of products, but also human surfaces functioning as ‘packaging’ and emitting discourses on interiority that place humans within limits and define their individuality.
However, the surfaces are not only readable. They are also produced on a daily basis, not only by the individuals themselves or the global beauty industry at large, but also a whole political machinery of identity, gleaning certain constant, measurable and recognisable traits of individuality from the surface discourses, documenting them in passports and identity cards and locking in modern individuals within the shell of their identity. Modern jewellery – in its contemporary, critical manifestations and its inherent tendency of breaching tradition – can break open the shell of identity and involve individuals in an open play of enhancement and change of masks. It can indeed be understood as a means of counteracting the pressure towards identity in daily life in modern societies.
Such ideas will be presented with examples and images from the area of contemporary jewellery art.

Ni Hao ! - 10 contemporary jewellery artists from Taiwan

The emerging Taiwan-based art jewelry group “Bench 886” is scheduled to present their works at Schmuck 2014 Munich Germany Jewelry Fair, showing the rich variety of their artistic energy on the international stage which is regarded as the Oscars in art jewelry

Ni Hao - 10 contemporaryjewellery artists from Taiwan
‘Hi’ (Ni Hao in Chinese) is a magic greeting word that initiates communication, just  as a key that opens the door to a discussion, a bridge that crosses the  boundaries of silence. Language very often goes beyond its linguistic meaning;   however, it is also confined to linguistic competence. If there is a way that  crosses the borders of language and speaks up one’s opinions through work piece,  so that everyone, regardless of language, could feel the frequency of the world;  that would be art.
‘Ni Hao! (hi) We are art  jewellery artists from Taiwan!’

Mei-Fang Chiang dialogues the relationship between soul and work  itself ;
Cai-Xuan (Molly) Wu and Heng Lee discover the beauty of knitting and  embroidery in an unconventional way;
Wen-Miao Yeh and Yu-Ping Lin develop the  Origami and paper cutting in structural dramatic forms;
Shih-Dea (Deborah) Tseng  and Ying-Hsun (Zita) Hsu reveal the vague and abstract spirit of ‘Zen’  in the perceptions of touch and vision;
Han-Chieh (Joy) Chuang, Ying-Hsiu Chen and Yung-Huei Chao combine the inspiration from  Mother Nature with the memory toward motherland.
‘Ten jewellery artists come from the same land, ten storytellers  looking forward to a whole new page in their lives.’
