« What about the pearls and their necklaces? From symbol of wealth and opulence to symbol of sobriety, from fantastic jewelery, sensual and transgressive to model of bourgeois modesty, the pearls surround us in multiple scenarios and multiple senses.
Beside the quiet collar of the grandmothers, we have Louise Brooks’s or Emmanuelle’s, alongside the puritanical collar of the typical North American executive (the only permissible jewel in the almost masculine uniform), we have the excessive adornments of the rajas of India, not to mention the earring of the girl from Vermeer, or from a corsair turned into a virginal little girl’s earring.
The pearl is born, like Venus, from a shell, but we do not recognize in it the same erotic and libertarian appeal. The pearl was domesticated. It is today a symbol of purity, chastity and restraint and, let’s face it, boring!
Can contemporary jewelery claim as its own the “stone” wich seems so classic and conservative today? «  Marta Costa Reis, 2017  for Galeria Reverso

SMACK / Offjoya 2017 at Ingallerybcn

«  SMACK brings us together as a group in many ways. Not only with the first letters of our names but also a common idea to describe an activity, a sound for hitting the right thing. The words diversity– connection to yummy food, big heart-breaking kisses, drugs and punishment – is intriguing. In our case, we use it for things that are necessary ingredients for our work, as interesting ideas, unexpected materials, supportive colleagues, energy giving snacks, excellent tools, the right equipment and much more. »
For the exhibition SMACK at INGallery in Barcelona,
we, Sofia Björkman, Matt Lambert, Agnieszka Knap, Carlos Silva and Karin Roy Andersson, come together and show art jewellery with SMACK feeling!

Snapshot - REVERSO

Snapshot – photography project with Diana Laires:
Words cannot say much about jewellery. You have to see, feel and wear the pieces on the body. You have to live with them. Only then, the pleasure of the thought and made, of the formulated and fabulated with ideas, desires and matters, can irradiate fascination.
What should remain is the joy and the desire to understand and wear these pieces of jewellery as symbols of your own personality. /Jens-Rudiger Lorenzen (adapted) in Contemporary Jewelry, Stuttgart, 1989

Portuguese jewellery art – a variety of gorgeous works and captivating forms

A compelling display of works by Portuguese jewellery artists opens the new panorama of exhibitions at Vienna’s Galerie Slavik. The range of unique pieces of jewellery encompasses strictly geometric, richly pictorial and consistently reduced creations.

The golden necklace by Ana Albuquerque, who has intensively explored the material gold and its history, is a compelling piece of simple and strictly reduced form, which is further accentuated by the glow of gold.

The name of Tereza Seabra, an artist who in the course of her training studied with Thomas Gentile in New York, has become synonymous with contemporary jewellery art in Lisbon today. Her golden vintage pendants take us on a journey into the past, a picture diary of old photographs and miniature landscapes painted on ivory and framed in gold.

The golden ring sculptures by Paula Crespo, one of the most noted Portuguese jewellery artists, are powerful, wearable miniature sculptures.
The works by Alexandra Serpa Pimentel are based on natural forms and structures. She designs powerfully expressive necklaces which in movement seem to merge with their wearers in fluid unity.

Alexandra Serpa Pimentel- silver and steel thread

The white paper brooches by Ana Coutos appear to float as weightlessly as a feather.

The exciting series of « Luster – Territories » brooches in silver, aluminum, lacquer and gold leaf by Dulce Ferraz reflect topographic morphologies created by man and nature.
