EXPO ‘Nomen Nescio’ – Piazza del carmine 29, Firenze (IT) – 2-3 Dec. 2016

Nomen Nescio

MFA GRADUATION SHOW - by  Carla Movia

Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School Florence

Opening 2 december 18:00-21:00

& 3 December 17:00-20:00

Nomen Nescio – Carla Movia

Nomen Nescio, from latin nomen-name and nescio-I don’t know, is an installation of 300 brooches, all made out of the same material – discarded tin cans.
It is the nameless and forgotten crowd that the jewellery artist Carla Movia addresses with her work, a reflection on stereotypes and prejudice.
100 trashed tin cans transformed into jewellery state that redemption is a possibility.
They are meant as a symbol of hope, the invisible and the rejected placed on the body and worn with pride to be noticed.
In this spirit, one series of brooches supports Oxfam Italia’s campaign Stand as One.
A percentage of the sales will be donated to give help and protection to the millions of people forced to flee conflict, disaster and poverty.

Alchimia contemporary Jewellery school in Firenze - proud to announce that our MFA graduate Carla Movia has been selected to Talente 2017 with her graduation work! #alchimia #contemporaryjewellery #talente2017: MFA graduate Carla Movia has been selected to Talente 2017 with her graduation work!

Triple Parade exhibitions in Tianjin & Beijing Exhibition / 10 Nov 2016 - 17 Jan 2017 - Tianjin Shengxi Museum of Fine Arts & Gauguin Gallery Beijing

The main exhibition TRIPLE PARADE 2016 -  Dialogue Across You and Me to Them: Creator, Wearer, Viewer  – Central Traveling Exhibition Represented 110 jewellery designers & artists from 14 countries.

The Triple Parade 2016 international annual exhibition is a cultural exchange which is expanded between China and the rest of the world on a multitude of level, devoted to the hardcore awakening in jewellery design, with a very open and contemporary-oriented approach by focusing on the concept of dialoguing.

The pervious themes were: Triple Parade 2015 – Dialogue across Three Countries, Triple Parade 2014 – Dialogue across Three Generations. This year, the term Dialogue across You and Me to Them: Creator, Wearer, Viewer in our theme is vitally important marks the notion of social interaction. We believe that the significance and multiple capacities of the dialogue mark have not been truly recognized. Each of the three roles in a dialogue, which are briefly introduced in the plate sections devoted to them, addresses one perspective on how  » Dialogue » plays a progressive position in the contemporary jewellery design of our period. Jewellery examines how we define self, integration and segregation, the means used for communication – and how these issues are reflected in creative work.

» TRIPLE PARADE 2016 will open its door at 10th NOV in Tianjin in China, it embraced the aspirations in a great ambition, setting up an intensive program consisting of exhibitions, publication, workshops, forum, lecture, which included dialogues with international collaboration partners from Netherlands, United States, United Kingdom, China, Denmark, Spain. The exhibition represented an enormous challenge to everyone involved in purely quantitative terms: with over 260 works by more than a hundred designers and artists from 14 countries. 11 experts from 8 countries have been exclusively invited to be in Tianjin as speaker on the Design Forum. The publication consists of 7 groups of interviews, including 14 experts on board, giving perspectives from education, collecting, creating, curating, wearing, and dealing on contemporary jewellery design. I am confident that it will open up new perspectives on the giant, and I would like to invite all the visitors to discover the greatly relevant designs from a field so full of surprises, with such a future ahead of it. » Jie Sun (founder of Triple Parade)

The SCHMUCK is an international exhibition that has been taking place in Munich for more than 50 years. It combines works of established artists and promising newcomers in the area of contemporary jewellery design and is the meeting place for collectors, jewellery lovers and museum curators from Germany and abroad. Organized as a worldwide contest, the works are chosen by an internationally renowned curator each year, this time by Eva Eisler, professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD). “Presenting works at the SCHMUCK is an honor for any jewellery designer“, says Dieter Dohr, Management Board Chairman of the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH. That is also why this time, more than 600 gold smiths and jewellery designers from Germany and abroad applied for the special show. In spring 2015, contributions by 63 artists from 21 countries will finally be on display. This time, Karel Novak from the Czech Republic will be honored as the classic of modern art. Highlight of the SCHMUCK will be the awarding of the Herbert-Hofmann-prizes on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at 5 pm on stage in hall B1. On this day, a jury will select the three best works of the SCHMUCK. Each year, a number of accompanying events group around the special show at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich galleries, museums and cultural institutes.

EXPO ‘Chain Reactions’ – CODA Museum, Apeldoorn (NL) – 30 Janv.-30 Mars 2014

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,Hollande (NL),MUSEE,necklaces — bijoucontemporain @ 0:06

Chain Reactions: Claartje Keur’s jewellery and portraits  :exhibition in Museum Coda Apeldoorn untill 30 March 2014  – 70 Necklaces from the collection Claartje Keur.

What started with a few silver chains and pendants in the 1970s, grew into a unique collection of jewellery. Claartje Keur (1938) has been collecting jewellery for over thirty years, specialising in neck jewellery. From 30 January until 30 March 2014 CODA Museum exhibits seventy necklaces from her collection. The exhibition combines this neck jewellery with the photo portraits of designers Claartje Keur made over the years.

exhibition in Museum Coda Apeldoorn untill 30 March 2014 www.coda-apeldoorn.nl 70 Necklaces from the collection Claartje Keur.
Claartje Keur started her jewellery collection by buying a brooch designed by Sita Falkena from gallery Ra in Amsterdam in 1983. Three years later this was followed by a necklace and bracelet by Emmy van Leersum, and in 1990 Keur made her first big neck jewellery purchase. In 1998, her collection consisted of thirty necklaces made by renowned jewellery designers. Today, the collection encompasses seventy pieces of neck jewellery from the best-known artists and jewellery designers.
Claartje Keur’s interest in neck jewellery goes back to her students days (Technical College, chemical technology) when she was given a necklace with a wrought-iron pendant in the shape of a small man. This pendant comforted her in difficult times. According to Keur, neck jewellery does not only act as a talisman, it also poses a challenge to both the maker and the wearer. How does it sit on the body? How does it change your aura?
Even though her collection now consists of more than seventy necklaces, collecting was not Keur’s original aim. “I did make a very conscious decision to spend money on jewellery, but at first it was mainly out of interest. You simply turn into a collector at a certain point; usually when others describe you as such.” Buying jewellery is a matter of taste, preference, personal contacts, and of course budget. Keur is interested in modern art and photography and has a preference for neck jewellery designed by artists who have graduated from Dutch academies. Diversity of materials was also an important factor. Keur: “I buy from as many artists as possible, in as many (unusual) materials as possible. I abhor ‘things on strings’, and I am not all that keen on gold.” The Chain Reactions exhibition in CODA Museum shows how each purchase is a reaction to the previous jewel, and predicts elements, shapes or materials in the next piece.

HANDSHAKE project

HANDSHAKE project - Becky Bliss, Fabrizio Tridenti, Neke Moa, Karl Fritsch, Gillian Deery, Estela Sáez Vilanova, Sam Kelly, Octavia Cook, Jhana Millers, Suska Mackert, Jessica Winchcombe, Warwick Freeman, Nadene Carr, Lucy Sarneel, Sarah Read, Iris Eichenberg, Lynsay Raine, Andrea Wagner, Kristin D’Agostino, Judy Darragh, Debbie Adamson, Hanna Hedman, Sharon Fitness, Lisa Walker - Objectspace (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand) 15-Jun-2013 - 20-Jul-2013 www.objectspace.org.nz

The Handshake exhibition is the culmination of the Handshake mentoring project that began in 2011 involving twelve, then emerging, New Zealand-based jewellers. The project initiated by jeweller, teacher, and jewellery activist Peter Deckers, has provided the mentees with the opportunity to work with an internationally renowned artist or jeweller of their choice, as a mentor.
The role of the mentor was to assist the mentee with establishing an ongoing practice that would extend beyond the duration of the project and provide professional support and advice during the process of them developing works for a series of Handshake exhibitions staged in Australia, New Zealand and Germany. While earlier exhibitions  focussed on the mentees, the Handshake exhibition at Objectspace presents works by all the participants and highlights the collaborative process and unique qualities of the relationships between the pairs.
The Handshake website (http://handshakejewellery.com) records the progress of the Handshake participants via blogs that chart the development and exchange of ideas which occurred through a mixture of email, Skype, and studio visits. A recently published book HANDSHAKE – 12 contemporary jewellers meet their hero collects text and images from participants and features an essay from leading international jewellery commentator Benjamin Lignel. The book is available for purchase at Objectspace.
In the final phase of this Handshake project each of the current mentees has been given the opportunity to select a new recent graduate, whom they will mentor for of a year, expanding on the ever increasing circle of learning and contributing to the dynamic flow of shared experiences. These graduating mentees- soon- to- be- mentors are the most valuable jewellery resources generated by Handshake.

EXPO ‘Substance’ – Gustavsbergs Konsthall, Gustavsberg (Sweden) – 22 Mars-12 Mai 2013

Substance

Substance - Artists: Alexander Blank, Peter Hoogeboom, Hanna Liljenberg, Dorothea Prühl, Lucy Sarneel - Gustavsbergs Konsthall (Gustavsberg, Sweden) 22-Mar-2013 - 12-May-2013 website: www.gustavsbergskonsthall.se mail: info@gustavsbergskonsthall.se

The exhibition Substance, curated by Hnoss Initiative, presents five leading exponents in the international jewellery field: Dorothea Prühl, Peter Hoogeboom, Lucy Sarneel, Alexander Blank and Hanna Liljenberg. The first three have long enjoyed international careers while the last two come from a younger generation. What they have in common is their strong roots in specific materials as well as the fact that they have developed their own approaches to the relationship between material and ornament. Hnoss describes the theme in these terms:

“Artists often choose the material or materials that best enables them to describe or communicate what it is that they want to narrate in their work. This has been characteristic of the cutting edge of international jewellery design. Working consciously with a material comes naturally to jewellery artists. What the artists invited to take part in Substance have in common is the fact that they use and identify themselves with a profound knowledge of a specific material and, in a highly convincing manner, use the material to communicate. Certain artists have become almost synonymous with a particular material.

EXPO ‘Below Sea Level’ – Galleri Format, Oslo (Norway) – 17 Janv.-17 Mars 2013

Below Sea Level – Jewellery from the Netherlands

(Manon van Kouswijk « Pearl Walk » Amsterdam)

Artists:  Ruudt Peters Ted NotenLucy SarneelManon van KouswijkEvert NijlandJantje FleischhutGésine HackenbergIris NieuwenburgNhat-Vu Dang

Today jewellery in the Netherlands is versatile; many different sources of inspiration, approaches and styles co-exist. Yet there is a mentality and an engagement that goes much further than just aesthetics. One can identify certain key notions that touch the chore of this approach: questioning, experimenting, abstraction, consistency, and the tendency to do things well but with a playful touch, to investigate profoundly and to work with a qualifying concept or narrative. The selected artists are all different and unique in their approach, but share the same inquiring mentality. The selection includes an iconoclast, an entertaining conceptualist, a joyous zinc smith, a chain artist, a romanticist, a designer in synthetic materials, a still life pictorialist, a storyteller and a playful abstractionist – together they present Dutch jewellery in all its broadness.

The exhibition will also present the renowned project “Wanna Swap Your Ring” by Atelier Ted Noten. The installation consist of 500 Miss Piggy-rings in shocking pink mounted on the wall of the exhibition space, all placed within the imaginary contours of a handgun. Spectators can obtain a ring made by the master by replacing it with an old one of theirs. What counts is not the value. Noten is equally happy to receive precious rings or cheap ones. What counts is the exchange of old stories and new ones. All the stories together will gradually fill the pistol-shape, changing the symbol of aggression into a charming and multi-faceted scene. A shift in meaning occurs, as is often the case in work by Noten, who has a penchant for combining opposing symbols. For the attentive viewer, the interactive installation holds countless different meanings.

EXPO 'OP VOORRAAD' - POPS up at KLIMT02 Gallery, Barcelona (ES) - 28 Nov.-22 Dec. 2012 dans BARCELONA archiefshop

OP VOORRAAD shows the jewellery in what appears to be a hardware shop including its typical perforated walls, supermarket trolleys, cash register, price labels and jewellery displayed in blister packaging.
This intriquing combination succeeds in its aim to trigger the nerve of consumerism and provides a sparkling place where new jewellery design can both be admired and purchased.

OP VOORRAAD shows work of around seventy renowned as well as young international designers. For this concept the designers produce a jewellery multiple in an edition of five. Beginning of each year the collection will be completely renewed. Most of the 360 pieces of the collection 2012 are handmade.
