EXPO ‘Marzee Graduate Show 2017′ – Marzee Gallery, Nijmegen (NL) – 20 Aout-25 Oct. 2017

Marzee International Graduate Show 2017

Please join us, and the participating graduates, for the opening of the Marzee International Graduation Show on Sunday 20 August 2017 at 4pm at Galerie Marzee.

Marzee Graduation Show - opening 20 August 2017 at 4 pm

The annual Marzee International Graduation Show, is the highlight of our exhibition calendar, and has grown from a modest affair to an event unparallelled in size and scope. This year’s show will present a selection of jewellery and objects by more than 100 graduates from 40 different art schools and academies from Europe, US, Asia and Australia.
Galerie Marzee is unique in its support for emerging young talent and since 1986 the Marzee International Graduate Show has offered the best new graduates their first opportunity to exhibit in a world-renowned gallery. During the opening we will also award the Marzee Graduate Prize to this year’s most promising students.
Bringing together student works from all over the globe, Galerie Marzee’s graduate exhibition is the only of its kind. It serves as an annual survey of thesis research in the field of jewellery, but more importantly, as a venue for these investigations, questions, and queries to come to light. Indeed, with contributions from over 40 academies and colleges across the world, design and process are as varied as there are selected works. As these students transition from the structure provided by university jewellery departments into a studio practice of their own making, the opportunity for their first body of work to continue into the contemporary conversation is significant. Perfectly housed within the gallery, the Marzee International Graduate Show 2017 marks the 31st installment, and the only jewellery degree exhibition of this size and scope.
The exhibition will be on show through October 25th.

Natalie Lee, Birmingham School of Jewellery, 1st Class Honours, crafts Wired Wearables a collection of dramatic arm and neckpieces. An extension of her drawings, the fluid lines in steel are skilfully manipulated using a PUK welder and then enamelled in deep greys with highlights of powder blue and mauve. The continuous play of light and shadow the pieces cast when worn “symbolise the transit of time, a progression representing both the past and the future.” she says.

September 2011- July 2014 : BA (Hons) Degree, Jewellery & Silversmithing, School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University, UK.

Natalie Lee - Drawing with Wire - sculptural neckpiece with abstract 3D shapes Natalie Lee – Drawing with Wire – sculptural neckpiece with abstract 3D shapes

Drawing with line, Natalie’s work centres around encapsulating narrative concepts; using her own photographs and line drawings as basis for generating shapes, Natalie works in a spontaneous manner which is apparent from the end result. Using a PUK welder, a tool to weld two pieces of wire together, she manipulates wire as a line, effectively drawing with the PUK welder; drawing 3D linear shapes which hold a personal memory of her own.
Natalie’s jewellery features as a series of wearable sketches, creating a collection of moving shadows on the body, The play of light and shadow symbolising the transit of time, a progression representing both the past and future, The personal journey narrated through the pieces concerns a transformation from one phase of life to another; a move which is manifest geographically, The commencement of the journey is now forgotten and the destination yet to be realised; the shadows, colour and light represent moments of the journey. These fragments are juxtaposed and presented as a continuous line/series of shapes.
The past is coloured black, a colour of mourning for the past, The use of light blue and white is in direct contrast; colours which are more positive and open in their symbolism, indicating the future and her ambitions. (KathLibbert Jewellery Gallery – Youth Mouvement)

Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery is delighted to introduce Nine New Graduates buzzing on our radar this year.
Technology meets art meets jewellery in this amazing collection that includes Smart Materials colour changing jewellery; Fill Your Own bright yellow Skip Brooches; kinetic gemstone rings; tough titanium Highland Clan Thistle Brooches; Wired Wearables – dramatic neckpieces and bangles drawn in steel – just a few of the visual treats created by this year’s New Wave!
Based at Salts Mill since 1996, Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery is renowned for its annual pick of the crop of new talents from across the UK’s universities. Curator Kath Libbert who selected the nine artists says ‘I always look for individuality and a fresh approach and the work of this year’s graduates is sure to surprise and stimulate!’
Moving Onwards and Upwards:
Beth Spowart, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee – 1st Class Honours, uses Smart Materials to create innovative jewellery which interacts uniquely with each individual wearer by changing colours through the stimulus of their body heat – an exciting experience for the wearer and definitely a conversation opener!
Jaki Coffey, National College of Art and Design, Dublin – 1st Class Honours, loves searching out treasure in skips and uses this as her inspiration for a series of funky bright yellow impeccably made powder coated copper Skip Brooches – the wearer then chooses what to fill up their Skip with from a selection of colourful ‘rubbish’ – becoming the curator of their own jewellery and making a provocative poke at our notions of preciousness!
Rebecca E Smith, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee – 1st Class Honours, discovered 300 wonderful love letters sent between her grandparents during World War ll and wanted as a testament to both this love story and to the power of letter writing, now a lost art, to create sentimental one off brooches, earrings and necklaces capturing the original handwriting, old photographs and vintage colours in a subtle palette of enamels. On an interactive note, Rebecca invites visitors to this exhibition to let her create jewellery capturing their own personal artefacts.
Lindsay Hill, Glasgow School of Art, BA Honours, employs advanced digital technologies to set stones kinetically in her striking rings whose bold symmetrical lines are also inspired by the facets on the gemstones they house. Both supremely elegant and great fun – the glinting gem tilts backwards and forwards as you move!
Karen Elizabeth Donovan, Edinburgh College of Art, MA Distinction, masterfully moves that hardest of metals titanium to create exquisite filigree-like necklaces bracelets and Highland Clan brooches gently tinted in blues, greens and golds. Scotland’s rich social history, its flora, and the materiality of titanium are her inspiration: “Plants define the character of a Nation or place. In Vermont, where I was born, we define ourselves by the Maple Tree. In Scotland we are often defined by the Thistle…..Titanium has a certain feel to it; a noise it makes when I brush my hand across it, and a smell it creates when I pierce, file and sand it. It is lightweight, strong, durable, and springy. It presents challenges to overcome and work around. It is sensual and it is home.”
Prudence Horrocks, Edinburgh College of Art, MA, inspired by the drawn line and a desire to replicate the patterns that are possible in pen and ink into jewellery, has crafted a beautiful series of rings, brooches and necklaces. In a classic palette of matt white and black acrylic she has embedded fine lines of silver and gold, creating a sophisticated elegant and supremely wearable collection.
Georgia Rose West, Colchester School of Art and Design, University of Essex, BA Honours – creates delightful small copper bowls, forming the metal into fluid shapes embellished with a great variety of creamy enamel patterning, each one having its own personality.
Rosie Deegan, Nottingham Trent University, 1st Class Honours – a mixed media, glass and metalwork artist, presents a quirky humorous body of work For a Man of Substance. The ironic title refers to her collection of Impotent Tools – made from glass and precious metals, they are exquisitely handcrafted but practically pointless!

SCHMUCK 2013 – Munich (DE) – PROGRAMME – 6-12 Mars 2013

SCHMUCK is an international jewellery competition which is staged every year in March as part of the Internationale Handwerksmesse. For over fifty years SCHMUCK has been the jewellery sector´s premier exhibition. From among the many applications received from designers to exhibit in SCHMUCK, a single juror makes his or her own personal selection of those whose work will be presented. This juror is generally an international curator and expert in contemporary jewellery design. In 2006 the Danner Foundation took over as patron of the exhibition. The organiser is the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern (Chamber of Trades and Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria), and the venue host is the Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH.

Organized by the Verein zur Förderung des Handwerks e.V.
Willy Brandt Allee 1, 81829 München, Germany

PROGRAMME

This year the exhibits accepted for SCHMUCK were selected by Bernhard Schobinger of Richterswil in Switzerland. A trained goldsmith, Schobinger is one of today´s leading jewellery designers. His works are regarded as influential in determining new directions in style and the man himself is seen as an artist with a unique aesthetic sense who has broken new ground particularly in avant-garde jewellery design. Not surprisingly, the works selected by him for SCHMUCK 2013, reflect this background. « They include a number of exciting new artists, but also many familiar names, » reveals Dieter Dohr. The exhibits at SCHMUCK include works by Robert Baines (Australia), David Bielander (Switzerland), Sungho Cho (Korea), Sam Tho Duong (Vietnam), Kimiaki Kageyama and Ryuichiro Nakamura (Japan) and Bruce Metcalf (USA).

* >> Klassiker der Schmuck 2013
Warwick Freeman , New Zeland
Each year at this special exhibition one designer is honoured in a retrospective called « Classic of the Modern ». This time it´s the turn of New Zealand designer Warwick Freeman. His pieces are characterised by a reduced, very clear idiom and a particular reference to natural forms.

SIERAAD Art Fair 2012 – Amsterdam – 1–4 Nov. 2012

SIERAAD Art Fair, international jewellery design fair – 01.Nov.2012 – 04.Nov.2012

SIERAAD Art Fair, international jewellery design fair(ring by Serin Oh from Korea, one of the winners of the biennial international design contest New Traditional Jewellery 2010)

This year the poster will feature a ring by Serin Oh from Korea, one of the winners of the biennial international design contest New Traditional Jewellery 2010: True Colours. After the great success of last year another delegation of Korean contemporary jewellery designers will be present at the fair this year – definitely something to look forward to because in our Western eyes these artists give a unique interpretation of their cultural history.

‘NEW NOMADS’ New Traditional Jewellery 2012

More Info: http://www.newtraditionaljewellery.com

exhibition New Nomads

exhibition New Nomads will be shown during SIERAAD Art Fair, 1 – 4 November 2012, in the Gashouder, WesterGasfabriek, Amsterdam  www.sieraadartfair.com

For the 2012 design contest and exhibition the professional jury of New Traditional Jewellery (NTJ) has chosen the theme ‘NEW NOMADS’, because both literally and figuratively this theme offers many possibilities for inspiration.

NEW TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY, international jewellery design contest - JURY (gauche)NEW TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY, international jewellery design contest - JURY for 'new Nomads' droite

the professional jury of New Traditional Jewellery (NTJ) at (hard !) work ….

The history of jewellery is as old as mankind. While people went in search of parts with the best living conditions they carried their valuables with them, wearing them on their bodies. Jewellery that represents economic and social status, as it still does nowadays in the case of nomadic tribes. The dissemination of religions went hand in hand with an unprecedented range of religious jewellery and ornaments, ranging from small containers for religious texts to reliquaries and portable altars.
To this day, jewellery made of stable materials like gold and gems is the guarantee for your ‘ticket home’ in times of crises or when you have to flee from high-risk areas. Due to the global financial crisis prices of this so-called ‘flight gold’ have skyrocketed. Is there an alternative? Nowadays there are quite different streams of migrants but the principle is the same: people in search of parts with better living conditions. The whole world is on the move, from refugees to tourists, from emigrants to employees of multinationals. And you don’t even have to get up from your chair: Skype e.g. has made videoconferencing into a social medium.
NTJ asks contemporary professional jewellery designers to build bridges between the traditional jewellery of e.g. nomads, pilgrims, explorers, globetrotters, refugees or colonists and possible symbols bearers representing the mobility of the ‘NEW NOMADS’. Check the attachments for conditions and criteria.

Exhibition ‘Patro(o)n’ and ‘Wim Ibensprijs 2012’
The exhibition ‘Patro(o)n’ gives consideration to daily rituals, compositions, work grinds and other patterns. At the same time this exhibition about contemporary jewellery provides a platform to see “free of any pattern”.

The selection of the 62 exhibits to feature in the special show SCHMUCK 2011 was made by Dr Rüdiger Joppien (Head of the Department of Art Nouveau and Modernism at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg), a recognised expert in the applied arts. In total over 650 designers had submitted applications to be granted a space to exhibit within SCHMUCK 2011. Featured in the exhibition are the works of a number of designers of international renown – names like Kimiaki Kageyama (Japan), Ted Noten (Netherlands), Lisa Walker (New Zealand), Ike Jünger (Germany) and Peter Bauhuis (Germany). For the first time this year the exhibition will also include work from China, Mexico and Turkey.

Klassiker der Moderne 2011 : Manfred Bischoff
In 2011, as in every year, there will be a retrospective of the works of one of the ‘classics of the Modern’. SCHMUCK 2011 will present the key works of Manfred Bischoff, a German goldsmith living in Italy who is regarded around the world as one of today´s leading contemporary jewellery designers. At the Internationale Handwerksmesse one of the many prizes he has received is the Bavarian State Prize (2005), an award which enjoys the very highest regard in the field of arts and crafts.

SCHMUCK the special show culminates in the presentation of the Herbert Hofmann Prize on 19 March 2011. In addition SCHMUCK 2011 is accompanied by a whole host of other events taking place in galleries, museums and arts institutes in Munich.

After the Internationale Handwerksmesse SCHMUCK goes on tour, this time, for the first time, also to France.
The French town which was given this honour is Cagnes-sur-Mer (Espace Solidor) in Provence. In recent years this small town has developed a reputation as a meeting place for statement jewellery designers. SCHMUCK first started to travel around the world in 2006, and has been seen in Australia (RMIT Gallery, Melbourne), Great Britain (Birmingham City University), Poland (National Art Gallery, Lódz), Italy (Oratorio di San Rocco, Padua) and the US (Museum of Arts and Design, New York).

Wendy Ramshaw und David Watkins © Artists

« In the mid 1960s Wendy Ramshaw and David Watkins ran a small firm called Optik Art Jewellery. They designed acrylic fashion jewellery inspired by Pop art paintings of the period. Later in 1967 they designed and sold paper jewellery all over the world. This was prior to a new revolution in jewelry design which was looming, throughout the 70s with non-precious materials and artistic ideas replacing material values. Ramshaw and Watkins were among the protagonists of the London scene. Ramshaw started out as an illustrator and textile designer. She has received numerous prestigious awards for her works, which include the Millennium Medal for Queen Elizabeth II. Her husband David Watkins was a jazz pianist, now a sculptor, and jewelry artist. Through his unconventional techniques and methods of working with materials he creates a unique style all of his own; from 1984 until 2006 he was Professor of Metalwork and Jewelry at the Royal College of Art in London. »

EXPO ‘Making Treasure’ – Birmingham City University, Birmingham (UK) – 13-22 Sept 2010

« Making Treasure  »

REALLY, REALLY  …. TREASURES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :-)

« Fantastical edible creations, modern re-interpretations of historical decorative arts, rubber glove garments and wearable drawings, a selection of what will be showcased at Making Treasure, the MA Jewellery, Silversmithing and Related Products graduate exhibition opening on September 13th.
The exhibition is the culmination of the intensive one-year long course taught at the renowned School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University.
The international group of makers join together to present new and original work that pushes conventional boundaries that co-exist within sculpture, fashion and fine art. The work exhibited challenges preconceived ideas of what jewellery and objects can be in form, material, function and scale whilst displaying individual aesthetics, design methodologies and artistic points.  »

« Not only is perception of ourselves, of others and the world around us, a source of inspiration, it also invites us into an active and dynamic engagement, which is deeply related to the things we make. Considerations of sculptural form, composition, material, function and aesthetics are enhanced by contemplations of meaning, emotional investments and intellectual content.
The creative work of the makers in this exhibition address aspects of the most vital issues in contemporary applied arts; in their questioning of established ideas of what constitutes adornment, how decoration should be defined and executed, these works engage the eye and the mind simultaneously. They appeal to the intellect, whilst eliciting an instantaneous sensual reaction of pleasure, a desire to touch, hold, use and wear.
MA Jewellery, Silversmithing & Related Products is the overall title of the course. This is however a very limited and traditional description when one considers the wide variety of products that are within the province of the designer who has knowledge and expertise in the area of personal ornaments, body signification and decorative metal objects. The variety of materials, manufacturing techniques and processes available to an artist or designer in this field is far larger and of much greater potential than is indicated by the term ‘jewellery and silversmithing’ and has some affinities with industrial design, fashion design, fine art and sculpture and is often informed by intellectual engagements like general philosophy, conceptualisation or critical theory.
Our course philosophy addresses the existing and potential relationships within this sector, and educates its students to recognize, identify, understand and operate within this diversity. The philosophy of the course is embodied within a structured project programme that requires students to address vocational and academic research in design by applying their developing abilities and interests to a wide range of issues. Design experiences include ideas generation focused through strategies for concept development, the analysis of design problems and reflection on the relationships between personal objectives, cultural values, market identities, prototyping techniques and new technologies, thus enhancing knowledge and understanding, as well as facilitating the formation of professional studio methodologies. «   (Professor Jivan Astfalck, PhD )

My design methodology revolves around the act of drawing
as an intuitive and subconscious process; geometric and organic components ‘grow’ alongside each other to create visual contrasts. Through a palette of feminine and masculine symbols, heavily detailed flowers and geometric shapes and crosshatched lines hybrid forms are created; not overtly floral, but organic and playful.
My making is immersed in metalwork because of the material’s ability to be visually delicate but physically strong. Fragments are created and later constructed to create the idiosyncratic detailing that appears in my drawings. I work within an intuitive mix of drawing and making that crosses over and intertwines.
I apply drawing materials of pencil, crayons and watercolours to a surface of enamel paint. This gives an interesting material link to my design methodology, enforcing the dialogue between drawing and making.

Rice is cheap, small, but vital
. I like the taste of rice, and the form of rice. I enjoy playing with the rice grains and placing them into different shapes. They are like bricks creating lush texture and speckled pattern.
In contrast, lace, delicate embroideries, and ribbons present the opulence and craftsmanship of aristocratic fashion. For some people, food is the only object they desire, unlike the ladies of the court who are chasing adorned shoes and beautiful garment or jewellery, the vast number of people need bread and water.
Rice is the food that most of the people in my country rely on. It is the symbol of living, a symbol that is cheap but essential, which is like potato or corn to others. The definition of ‘ordinary’ and ‘luxury’ at different levels of social status is contradictory and interesting. I use this ‘ordinary’ material to describe opulence, and also explore the meaning of value and preciousness in different contexts. The richness and tactile abundance in the texture of rice delivers a deluxe beauty in place of the lace and jewels. I use this cheap material to produce enchanting and original works.

‘Deadlights’
I create Jewellery that is grotesque yet intriguing by using rubber, plastics and found objects. Symbols from our collective subconscious, weird imagery of clowns, costumes, monsters and madness have fuelled this idiosyncratic collection.
The objects show elements of play amongst those of fear- this ambiguity can give the viewer an uncomfortable feeling as it requires to engage with two contradictory ideas at the same time. This I find fascinating!
My making process is spontaneous but controlled. I use a wide range of materials including rubber, plastics, foam and found objects. These contrasting textures and clashing colours are amalgamated, allowing the pieces to develop sculpturally. The use of ready-mades gives structure to the work and increases uncanny feelings. We know these ready-mades but when they are positioned within this madness, they offer new perspectives- we have to take a second look.

Paper has, without doubt, many varied uses. However, multiple layered paper interests me with its subtle movement and tactile qualities. I aim to recreate the link between the material and its original source in the natural environment. Pure and organic elements reveal a delicate and subtle visual language. The pieces function both as wearable pieces of body adornment and as sculptural objects off the body. The soft and subdued tones of colour that I choose give a quiet, calm and contemplative quality to the pieces.
Time is an essential element through the making progress; time, nature and I form my works, meticulous working processes enable me to develop a range of elements, which create the compositions.

I am interested in the dialogue created when recognisable forms from the history of European fashion and the decorative arts are combined, changed, and reinterpreted in a modern material.
For this project I chose to focus on material research and development, exploring plaster as a primary material in jewellery. Plaster has long been used in architectural decoration, but the plaster I use has been chemically changed with modern products to create an altered material that is waterproof and suited for use in jewellery production. I explored surface enhancement and advanced construction techniques to further develop the jewellery. I developed my construction methods based on historical plasterwork, adapting these techniques to fit my personal design agenda.
The images and forms I use come directly from my photos and drawings, based on objects seen on my visits to museums and stately homes. My interest in the forms, patterns, and images from the rich history of European design inspires this collection of contemporary jewellery.

My work explores the ideas of growth, transformation and disintegration. I find inspiration in surrealist science fiction, which is rich in atmosphere and imagery. Many of the books describe apocalyptic landscapes and alternate worlds that are on the brink of geographical catastrophes. In these dramatic dreamscapes there are no utopias, emphasis is placed on mental explorations and evocative journeys of the isolated humans.
I create my pieces by combining permanent and temporary materials such as textiles and sugar. I like the pieces to have a constantly changing structure and once completed, begin their transient lives. Depending on how they are cared for they may dissolve in humid conditions, change colour or melt like an ice-lolly on a hot day revealing the materials underneath. The evolution of the work is something that interests me greatly. I do not attempt to try and control what happens to the pieces after they are finished. I like an element of surprise.

The theme behind my work is to create a “city in the sky”. My inspiration initially came from a plastic bag flying in the air which I saw when I looked up into the sky .This evoked a good feeling and I began to consider the concept and question of flying; why should jewellery not fly? My work evolved from this to become sculptural objects. I create objects from bamboo and Chinese rice paper, exploring form, shape and structure. The visual use of lines in the pieces, in the installation and images of my work build together an alternative city skyline. I hope people can find a feeling of freedom and escapism in my work. I express this idea by taking photographic views of the city and making short films to tell stories about my flying pieces.

Simon Pattinson
My work derives from an exploration of the relationship between form and function. I look to create functional objects for the home which challenge and excite the user with designs which are serious yet play on their relationships. I have explored possibilities in form to create objects which invite interaction and arouse interest beyond mere function. Through these ideas I have created families of objects which communicate with one another and belong.
I look for relationships between materials, processes, colours and finishes, in different mediums including ceramics, metal and wood. I have used industrial processes to create some of the objects, whilst others have been developed using paper and card. When people interact with my work I want them to smile, to have fun with the objects, bringing joy to the relationship between object and user.

“Line is a basic element that exists in nature as a structural feature such as branches of a tree, or as surface design, such as striping on a tiger or a seashell. It can also exist by implication, as the edge of forms or its silhouette”. (Joseph A. Gatto 1987)I am interested in linear form and structure; the way in which a simple component can be combined and connected to create complex patterns and forms. All of my pieces are created from only one element “line”. I use a combination of curved lines to create my own three-dimensional forms with my textured wire technique. I use my traditional fine jewellery skills to make sculptural and wearable jewellery by using precious metals with simple colour range to show the purity of the line and the structure. I aim to make each piece appear beautiful from all angles.

My work explores exagerated form and flexible wearability. I am interested in the idea that clothes are usually dominant and jewellery secondary, worn as an accessory to add decoration. My enquiry reverses this concept. To show this emphasis I create large scale jewellery that attracts people’s attention and functions like an item of clothing.
I choose rubber gloves as my material, aiming to transform a mundane everyday item into beautiful and original objects. I explore special dyeing techniques on the rubber gloves. I aim to create a unique aesthetic combination of sculptural construction, dramatic colour and texture. I see my work as visually interesting pieces for every-day wearing.

My jewellery investigates notions of mourning and memorial jewellery, souvenirs that remember a loved one and which are a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death. I work predominately in plaster, which communicates a feeling of fragility related to our weak and transitory life.
Life is precious! I chose to work with tones of black, white and gray. These three tones are the background in my work and are combined with the highlights of copper and gold to form a contrast between preciousness and emptiness. I created images on plaster with symbols of death once used in Victorian mourning jewellery such as skulls, skeletons, and human hair, Memento Mori that are a warning against vanity.

My inspiration comes from nature; the linear structure of plants is fascinating to me. I refine these natural shapes from my photographs of plants by overlaying line drawings. By using metal wire and crochet techniques I transfer graphic shapes into interesting and original three-dimensional structures to make wearable pieces of jewellery.
My collection is like a ‘garden’, every piece is unique with different colour, structure and other contrasts. They express feelings in the same way like in a real garden, where each kind of flower has its own beauty and character though they are different, they can enrich each other and be in harmony. In the process of exploring the linear structures and the balance between each piece and the whole group, I am trying to express the beauty I have found in nature.

My designs mirror myself and how I have been shaped by the people I have met.
I am looking for an answer to what might be a gentle and considerate.
Could silence be heard, even without talking?
Could virtue be seen, even without showing?
Could people not hurt each other, even though we all flawed?
Sometimes flowers and plants give me part of reply in the symbiotic relationships they have with other plants and organisms. Plants always have their individual characteristics but don’t interfere with each other. Maybe this is the reason I am fascinated by them.
I chose to use zips in my work to show the connections between people, events, things or places. People all want to connect and have graceful relationships like flowers in a garden.

My work combines popular fashion elements and bold colour which relate to Pop Art. I organise these elements as collage and stylised images of fashion and beauty. I create my own images from these fashion elements using computer software. The colour range within the images helps me to bring my work together as a collection.
Together with the illustrations and bold colours, I have also designed electronic circuits to extend my jewellery into the realms of light and sound. Adding the electronics makes my work more playful and gives an added function which encourages interaction. My illustrations can be illuminated by the light when worn in a dark place. I have also added sound sensors to my work, so that my work can be changed by the volume of the speed of speech and music.

Yu- Ping Lin
My work is process-based and structurally complex. I am never without a sketchbook where my ideas evolve so I am constantly drawing with brush strokes. The inks sometimes bleed into the Chinese rice paper and at other times they develop into more in-depth ideas and detailed images.
I did not set out to be a fashion designer or to create artwork relating to environmental issues but as my portfolio developed and I became interested in both style and ecology. My work tends to focus on inspiration from nature, the notion of folding and pleating, architectural structures, interaction with people and seduction of pattern and colour; the original pleasure captured by the structure of organisms and forms inherent in nature.

Unusual SHOP : « In Stock » – goes to ASIA during Taiwan Designers’ Week 2010 – 3-12 Sept 2010

‘In Stock’ the jewellery pop-up store in a hardware shop coat is a blessed concept initiated by the three Dutch designers Ineke Heerkens, Jantje Fleischhut, Jeannette Jansen since 2009. This project of an unconventional display of contemporary jewellery design shows work, which lingers on the edge of design and art. Around seventy renowned international designers produce for this concept multiples in an edition of five – still mostly handmade.

In Stock pops up Taiwan 2010

For the display, blister packaging on perforated wooden walls is used, price labels, cash register, a supermarket trolley at the entrance.
