ATTA Gallery: Exhibition 'Incipit' by Nelly Van Oost (MA 2013) • ATTA Gallery, Bangkok • 11 May - 18 June, 2016. Nelly Van Oost: www.nellyvanoost.com Nelly's thesis "Daily Connections": http://bit.ly/1NorKKQ ATTA Gallery: www.attagallery.com:

Who hasn’t drawn pictures of willies on tables or even on the door of a public toilet? That’s what got me thinking… These penises are spontaneous and a bit provocative, but moreover that are an essentially funny representation of the male sex. Through this series I evoke memories of common spaces. I want the viewer to recall stories. Stories that will make them remember a personal anecdote, or a mental image. I would like my penises evoke a sense of humor, as something that they can easily connect with.
This series also raises the question of the taboo around sex. The subject of sex is no longer profane; it is talked about amongst friends or even among strangers. We talk about sex in all kinds of situations, the subject is a catalyst: it strengthens friendships, creates conflicts, makes people laugh … Indeed, it was something around this social aspect of the discussion of sex that appealed me. Just think of Tinder, sex is everywhere, on our phones, televisions etc….
Everyone is looking for that perfect match that perfects someone, who matches their own criteria. The common aspect is that everyone is looking for the « best. » Could I be with a more handsome partner? Should I just be happy with the person I am with? We want everything and fast as these social networks have developed a sort of mechanism of permanent selection. Sex becomes a consumer product like any other.
Through the collection Incipit (the word incipit designates the first words of a story), I would like to stimulate direct and immediate feelings. I seek to provoke a reaction. What happens when you wear a penis on the top of your jacket? Perhaps a smile, encounters, new stories to come …

Prix européen des Arts Appliqués

European Prize for Applied Arts

Friday 23 October 2015: opening ceremony and Prize awarding Master Prize and Young Talent Prize and Mons 2015 Prize At the Grand Hall of the « Anciens Abattoirs » of Mons Exhibition from 24 October 2015 until 10 January 2016

BoraxConference BORAX 08001 « What do you have in your hands? »
The Bórax08001 collective has invited JOYA 2015′s participating artists to collaborate with them and carry out the What do you have in your hands? project in their own cities, with their own jewels and with their own unknown public. The goal of this project is to reach a part of society that is unaware of Contemporary Art Jewellery. By going out on the streets, direct contact between the creators and the passers-by can be established and feedback gathered. During Bórax08001′s conference, the collection of reactions and dialogues obtained from these interventions will be shared and reflected upon by the members of the collective, the participants and the audience.

***

Bórax08001 is a basic component in jewellery because it prevents oxide from forming and, at the same time, works as a flux favoring the flow of metal when it is being soldered and fused. The Bórax08001 collective acts as an antioxidant that drives our artistic creation, but also as a flux, favoring the flow of ideas and concepts as well as the development of new techniques and trends in contemporary art jewellery.
We come from multiple geographic coordinates and backgrounds. This particularity has enriched us personally and as a group ever since our paths crossed at the Escola Massana (Barcelona, Spain). As we grew up and deepened our skills as jewellers at Massana, strong synergies and complicities were created between us. And we have chosen Bórax08001 as the means to keep them alive, searching for new horizons and goals while sharing experiences and learning from each other.
Our work can be defined as the cartography of personal and experimental dialogues through contemporary art jewellery. Dialogues through matter, space, color… based on quests, poems, memories, doubts, thoughts, mistakes, games, dreams, intuition, perfection, light, consciousness, unconsciousness, beauty, and emotions.
Bórax08001 means contemporary, signature, art jewellery. Signature, because we value work from beginning to end and we wish to recover the value of authenticity, taking pride and joy in creating high-quality jewellery, putting special emphasis on the details. Contemporary, because our pieces of jewellery speak for us and reflect the society we live in. And art(istic) because we strive to express ourselves through metaphors and symbols while we create unique pieces. We conceive our collective as a medium, a tool, a channel that allows us to disseminate contemporary jewellery culture to the public unaware of this form of art. We are convinced that to make our work known it’s not only important to show it in the traditional established places, but also to approximate our artistic and conceptual vision  to people who are outside of the contemporary jewellery circuit. We try to do so by taking jewellery to their own territory in a natural, open and simple way through actions in public spaces which  occur in different places.  Our intention, through these direct interventions with society, is to bring closer the contemporary jewellery concept and to extend the conception of art to jewellery

During an arrythmia the heart can beat too fast, too slow or in an irregular manner. Understanding the creative process as an arrythmia is a metaphor that brings us closer to the reality that the Bórax08001 collective has experienced since its beginnings. With Arritmia the collective wishes to reflect these diverse states, through a selection of jewels created in recent times. Being an exhibition that displays the rhythm of our creative beats and variations in frequency which make each member shine by their own personal imprint.

Nelly Van Oost - UNION -

Each of us forges links with someone, it is hard to explain how, yet the experience sounds so simple, natural. Between Nelly Van Oost and Jose Bravo, it just clicked, the connection was immediate: an artistic and human love at first sight. As if their paths were meant to cross. Working together sounded obvious to them. Their universes of creation complement each other and make them crossing their artistic limits.

UNION was born from this need to work together. Since August 2012, they have been exchanging, building up dialogues between photography and contemporary jewellery. Each of them, through their own specialty, values this connection. For «RENCONTRES», their first project, Jose Bravo spent 10 days capturing moments of Nelly Van Oost’s everyday life and from these pictures and time spent together, Van Oost created jewels.  In June 2014, the Spanish photographer once more entered Nelly’s universe in order to carry out the project «INSTANT». The process reversed since the latter invited him to take an artistic look at some moments of exchange during which jewels are transformed through a physical (and human) exchange between two people.

For this new step in their collaboration, Nelly Van Oost and Jose Bravo want to make the most of a place and give the opportunity for the public to discover their work. Their exhibition will be articulated around several modules, unveiling their common as well as their personal work. The theme of union will be explored to the full extent.

The SCHMUCK is an international exhibition that has been taking place in Munich for more than 50 years. It combines works of established artists and promising newcomers in the area of contemporary jewellery design and is the meeting place for collectors, jewellery lovers and museum curators from Germany and abroad. Organized as a worldwide contest, the works are chosen by an internationally renowned curator each year, this time by Eva Eisler, professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD). “Presenting works at the SCHMUCK is an honor for any jewellery designer“, says Dieter Dohr, Management Board Chairman of the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH. That is also why this time, more than 600 gold smiths and jewellery designers from Germany and abroad applied for the special show. In spring 2015, contributions by 63 artists from 21 countries will finally be on display. This time, Karel Novak from the Czech Republic will be honored as the classic of modern art. Highlight of the SCHMUCK will be the awarding of the Herbert-Hofmann-prizes on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at 5 pm on stage in hall B1. On this day, a jury will select the three best works of the SCHMUCK. Each year, a number of accompanying events group around the special show at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich galleries, museums and cultural institutes.
