Naturalienkabinette – Vorbilder aus der Natur
Cabinets of Nature and Curiosities

Vom 5.

Paleontology Museum (Munich, Germany) curated by Galerie Handwerk.

'Naturalienkabinette' at the Paleontology Museum (Munich, Germany) curated by Galerie Handwerk. From June 4 until July 7, 2013 www.handwerk-galerie.de(Mirjam Hiller Brooch: Loperenias 2012 Stainless steel, powder coated,, sawing, forging, bending)

It is the aim of the exhibition “Cabinets of nature and curiosities“ of the Galerie Handwerk in Munich to show the formal inspiration through nature in glass, ceramics, metal, paper, jewellery and textile. In the cabinets of curiosities and nature of the Renaissance and Baroque objects from art and nature were presented side by side and objects of nature were distinguished by a precious fitting by goldsmiths.

The exhibited works by international artists are characterized by the close and intense relation between art and nature. They emphasize the fascination by the exotic, strange, mysterious, the aesthetic attraction by insects, flowers, animals and stones and translate these into a form which also includes a reflection on contemporary issues concerning nature and mankind’s relation to it.

The Galerie Handwerk of the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern is guest at the Museum of Palaeontology in Munich. It will be especially fascinating to see contemporary works of the arts and crafts opposite fossils and finds from early stages of the history of the earth.

This year the exhibits accepted for SCHMUCK were selected by Bernhard Schobinger of Richterswil in Switzerland. A trained goldsmith, Schobinger is one of today´s leading jewellery designers. His works are regarded as influential in determining new directions in style and the man himself is seen as an artist with a unique aesthetic sense who has broken new ground particularly in avant-garde jewellery design. Not surprisingly, the works selected by him for SCHMUCK 2013, reflect this background. « They include a number of exciting new artists, but also many familiar names, » reveals Dieter Dohr. The exhibits at SCHMUCK include works by Robert Baines (Australia), David Bielander (Switzerland), Sungho Cho (Korea), Sam Tho Duong (Vietnam), Kimiaki Kageyama and Ryuichiro Nakamura (Japan) and Bruce Metcalf (USA).

SCHMUCK 2013 – Munich (DE) – PROGRAMME – 6-12 Mars 2013

SCHMUCK is an international jewellery competition which is staged every year in March as part of the Internationale Handwerksmesse. For over fifty years SCHMUCK has been the jewellery sector´s premier exhibition. From among the many applications received from designers to exhibit in SCHMUCK, a single juror makes his or her own personal selection of those whose work will be presented. This juror is generally an international curator and expert in contemporary jewellery design. In 2006 the Danner Foundation took over as patron of the exhibition. The organiser is the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern (Chamber of Trades and Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria), and the venue host is the Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH.

EXPO ‘CON-DECORADOS’ – Galería Klimt02, Barcelona (ES) – 27 Fevr.-22 Mars 2013

CON–DECORADOS was born with the intention of reinventing an icon as globally widespread as decorations, those medals that are given as a reward, that proclaim to the world that the wearer has reached great honour and recognition.
It also comes from a comment made aloud: « Everyone deserves a medal » and from picking up that comment and trying to go deeply into it. Why does that object of recognition have to be only for great warlike and human feats? Why must I be rewarded by someone else? Why can I not do it myself? Why can I not reward myself for the books I have read, for the hugs I have given, for the music I have listened to, for the untiring efforts to overcome my shyness, for laughing, for thinking, for feeling…?
All the artists who have participated in this exhibition have proven that we can make up countless medals, as many as reasons we may have to decorate ourselves, and erase the line that separates the good from the bad, the worthy from the useless, since the soul works with subtlety between light and shadow.

EXPO ‘Peter Bauhuis: Cupriavidus Metallidurans’ – Galerie Pilartz, Cologne (DE) – 1er Sept.-13 Oct. 2012

Cordial Invitation to Exhibition Opening : Saturday, September 1, 2012,  12 to 4pm

Peter-Bauhuis-Galerie-Pilartz-Koeln

Peter Bauhuis is fascinated with the possibilities of founding. The central series of his work were made in metal founding. The intensive, often innovative engagement with this technique has earned Peter Bauhuis a reputation as modern alchemist. In contrast to wrought works that were forged the actual work in founding pieces lies within a thorough preparation. Technical precision and exact knowledge of the materials used predetermine the later results. However, once the founding has started, there are few possibilities left to correct or influence the outcome.
The experiment with the process of founding and melting different metals together characterises the work of Peter Bauhuis.
He reaches unexpected colours from matt white to a faint greenish yellow up to deep orange and dark red that seem to run into each other with the interplay of oxidising gold, silver and copper. People looking at his works, ask themselves: is this really metal?
He integrates seeming mistakes like fine lines or cracks and technical necessities into his shapes. This gives metal and its strong materiality an incredible lightness. With wit and playful irony he questions the gestures of jewellery and the objects and how we are used to seeing things. EXPO ‘Peter Bauhuis: Cupriavidus Metallidurans’ – Galerie Pilartz, Cologne (DE) – 1er Sept.-13 Oct. 2012 dans Allemagne (DE) g_1pm1528hq

« Mystery, curiosity, try-try-try, risky, trust, transformation, strange…
Do you think a plastic cup is a piece of jewellery? Probably not.
Every material has it’s hidden value. You just have to look for it.
You could jump on it for 30 minutes, shoot it from a distance of 25 meters, bake it in an oven for 3 days, try to plant it and wait for it to grow or you could just make it explode.
Maybe, if you are lucky and patient enough that plastic cup could actually turn into something precious and unexpected, which will lead you to your piece of jewellery. »
