CREATIVITY OGGETTI PRESENTA:
“TIMELESS – IL GIOIELLO CONTEMPORANEO INDOSSATO DA Sel.Dì.”

Aqto — Silvia Beccaria — Daniela Boni — Isabelle Busnel — Clara Del Papa — Pastore e Bovina — Laura Forte –Christine Jalio — Anna Król — Uli Rapp — Giulia Savino — Chiara Scarpitti — Barbara Uderzo — Alena Willroth — Elena Valenti — Ksenia Vohkmentseva.

Sustainable jewelry at Universidad Gestalt de Diseño Xalapa (Mexico): BREATHTAKING !!

Mariana Acosta  professor at sustainable jewelry class of Universidad Gestalt de Diseño Xalapa, Mexico  :
« Aug_Jan_2014/15 : This is my students work. The class goal was to make a piece of contemporary jewelry from waste materials that are considered useless outside the creative realm. A dialogue between the maker and the material is enabled through a process of profound research and experimentation. Understanding the possibilities of the material to be transformed into an out of the ordinary body ornament was central to the success of the work. I feel very proud that some of them were able to develop their own personal exchange with the material«

The SCHMUCK is an international exhibition that has been taking place in Munich for more than 50 years. It combines works of established artists and promising newcomers in the area of contemporary jewellery design and is the meeting place for collectors, jewellery lovers and museum curators from Germany and abroad. Organized as a worldwide contest, the works are chosen by an internationally renowned curator each year, this time by Eva Eisler, professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD). “Presenting works at the SCHMUCK is an honor for any jewellery designer“, says Dieter Dohr, Management Board Chairman of the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH. That is also why this time, more than 600 gold smiths and jewellery designers from Germany and abroad applied for the special show. In spring 2015, contributions by 63 artists from 21 countries will finally be on display. This time, Karel Novak from the Czech Republic will be honored as the classic of modern art. Highlight of the SCHMUCK will be the awarding of the Herbert-Hofmann-prizes on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at 5 pm on stage in hall B1. On this day, a jury will select the three best works of the SCHMUCK. Each year, a number of accompanying events group around the special show at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich galleries, museums and cultural institutes.

Mari Funaki award : and the WINNERS are …. – EXPO at Gal. Funaki (AU) – 13 Aout-13 Sept. 2014 -

The results of the Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery are in:
the winner of the prize for an established artist is Kiko Gianocca with his series of 3 necklaces, ‘Veneer’.
The two emerging winners are Patricia Correia Domingues with her pendant from the ‘Duality’ series, and Sara Gackowska with her ‘Membrane’ brooch from the ‘Methamorophosis’ series.
The judges were also very impressed with the work of Inari Kiuru (emerging) and Jiro Kamata (established) and gave each a commendation. It’s been a wonderful night and congratulations to all!

The « Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery » EXHIBITION runs until September 13.

Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery

Mari Funaki was a unique and passionate advocate for contemporary jewellery in Australia, both through her own remarkable practice and her establishment and directorship of Gallery Funaki.
This Award aims to celebrate Mari’s legacy by rewarding the skills and vision of jewellers both here and overseas and by providing a platform for outstanding new work to be shown here in Australia. A panel of three judges will award prizes in both established and emerging categories, with total prize money valued at AUD$11,000.

The judges are:
Warwick Freeman, an eminent New Zealand jeweller who has exhibited with Gallery Funaki since 1995. He is the recipient of the Francoise van den Bosch Prize (2002) and the Bayerischer Staatpreis ‘Modern Classic’ (2013).
Simon Cottrell, a prominent Australian jeweller and educator and currently acting head of the Gold and Silversmithing Workshop at ANU, Canberra. Cottrell has an extensive exhibition history and his work is held in numerous international collections.
Julie Ewington, a leading Australian art specialist with almost 40 years experience as an academic, writer and curator. Most recently Curatorial Manager at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art, she has a particular interest in contemporary jewellery and has written extensively on the topic, most recently in the 2013 Lark publication, ‘Contemporary Jewelry in Perspective’. She was recognised this year with an Australia Council for the Arts Visual Arts Award.
The Award is generously supported by Vivienne and Leo Donati, Johannes Hartfuss and Fabian Jungbeck

And the winners are…

In the established category, the judges chose Kiko Gianocca’s Veneer necklaces.

There are two winners in the emerging category. The first is Patrícia Correia Domingues with her pendant from the Duality series.
The second emerging prize goes to Sara Gackowska for her Membrane brooch from the Methamorphosis series .

In the emerging category, the judges also gave a commendation to Inari Kiuru’s two brooches from the Evolution series (right), saying “this commendation recognises the conceptual adventurousness of her project, which takes her across diverse materials to explore the inter-connectedness of natural and urban systems.”

And a commendation in the established category went to Jiro Kamata, for his Spiegel necklace (right). The judges said “this classical graduated necklace is composed of camera lenses and mirrors that bring viewers into the very substance of the piece. But, note, everyone who sees themselves will do so from a different perspective. This, in combination with its impeccable making, comprises its simple elegance.”

We extend warm congratulations to all the winning artists and thank everyone involved in the exhibition, which received an overwhelmingly positive response on this, its opening night.

Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery - Kiko Gianocca’s Veneer necklacesIn the established category, the judges chose Kiko Gianocca’s Veneer necklaces (2014, neckpiece, wood veneer, balsawood, brass, 220x240x18mm). Of these works, they commented: “They have a boldness of scale that makes them look challenging to wear, but the choice of materials and the subtlety of the construction make these pieces exceptionally successful on the body.
Veneer 1, 2 and 3 are deceptively straightforward titles, but we found that the pieces evoke many different associations and interpretations. They move and shift on the body, with their beautiful hinging adapting to the wearer. This is exceptional work.”
There are two winners in the emerging category. The first is Patrícia Correia Domingues with her pendant from the Duality series.

The second emerging prize goes to Sara Gackowska for her Membrane brooch from the Methamorphosis series .

Sara Gackowska Brooch: Membrane, 2013 Bio-resin, hematite, sterling silver 100x65x25mm
The second emerging prize goes to Sara Gackowska for her Membrane brooch (2013, brooch, bio-resin, hematite, sterling silver, 100x65x25mm) from the Methamorphosis series .
The judges said: “We greatly admired the elegant oppositions between the two main materials- dense hematite on the top surface, and spongy bio-resin on the base. There’s a wonderful necessary relationship between the two materials and the way the top surface appears broken, and fractured, precisely because of their interaction.”

Patrícia Correia Domingues - WINNER OF THE Mari Funaki EMERGING PRIZEPatrícia Correia Domingues  with her pendant from the Duality series. (‘Duality’, 2014, pendant, artifical ivory,)Of this work, the judges said: “Patricia’s work Duality plays with oppositions between chance and deliberation – if you look at the piece, you’ll see that it seems highly structured – it’s a frame of artificial ivory, but she has embraced the possibilities of chance in fracturingthat form.”

EXPO ‘Amber in Contemporary Art Jewellery ‘ – Putti Art Gallery, Riga (Latvia/Lettonie) – 23 Mai-2 Aout 2014

Amber in Contemporary Art Jewellery -

Putti Art Gallery (Rīga, Latvia)

Amber - Riga - Putti gal.

Amber in Contemporary Art Jewellery - Putti Art Gallery (Rīga, Latvia) 23-May-2014 -
Nikolai Balabin (brooch ?)

The core idea of the exhibition is to demonstrate the possible range of application of amber in the contemporary art jewellery created by professional jewellers.  This area of interest is largely based on the specific materiality of amber – and its historical significance. The choice of exhibition organizers to choose „Amber Road” as the thematic background is not accidental; it played a significant role between 1st and 5th centuries AD as an exchange route of goods between the Baltic Sea region and Roman Empire. The route started in the eastern coastal area of the Baltic Sea, which at that time was inhabited by the Prussians and Curonians. It continued down the Visla up to the city of Karnunta (currently in Hungary) and further to the coast of the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine peninsula, providing Rome with the precious and exclusive material. Many Roman coins and antiquities found in the graveyards in the Baltic countries is perceived as the evidence of this trade route together with testimonies in the writings of Roman Empire era. Thus not only will Latvian and Italian jewellers participate in the exhibition but also artists from countries that Amber Road passed through (Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, and Hungary). This exhibition will not only link the Amber Road geographically, but also historically by connecting the ancient times with the present, the past with the future and demonstrating the spectacular miracle of amber jewellery creation.

The stage of the exhibition is set by an internationally renowned fashion designer brand “MAREUNROL’S”. The fashion designers – Mārīte Mastiņa and Rolands Pēterkops created their first joint collection in 2002 while still being students at Riga Applied Art College. Since then, they have participated and received awards in various international fashion and arts festivals, including the International Fashion and Photography Festival in Hyeres (France). (www.mareunrols.com and http://putti.lv/en/mareunrols )

Exhibition catalogue is designed by Kirils Kirasirovs and the text authors are Una Meistere and Daiga Rudzāte. The catalogue is issued by the arts and culture portal “Arterritory” (www.arterritory.com).

The catalogue publishing is supported by “Rīga 2014″.

Twenty artists take part in the exhibition: Andris Lauders (Latvia), Claudia Steiner (Austria), Eva Tesarik (Austria), Eve Margus-Villems (Estonia), Fanni Vékony (Hungary), Gigi Mariani (Italy), Guntis Lauders (Latvia), Heidemarie Herb (Italy), Helfried Kodré (Austria), Jānis Vilks (Latvia), Jurgita Erminaitė-Šimkuvienė (Lithuania), Maria Cristina Bellucci (Italy), Māris Auniņš (Latvia), Māris Šustiņš (Latvia), Nataša Grandovec (Slovenia), Nikolai Balabin (Russia), Pawel Kaczynski (Poland), Sara Gackowska (Poland), Valdis Brože (Latvia) and Viktoria Münzker (Austria).
