‘Deganit Stern-Schocken: In the Air‘ at Gallery Loupe From April 6 until April 30, 2013

« In this newest body of work, Stern-Schocken explores her earlier forms and imbues them with weightlessness.  This investigation stems from her interest in the ‘non-object’  and focuses on the space between the objects rather than on the object itself. The stones set into the brooches and pendants appear to be ‘in the air.’  Stern-Schocken’s silver and stainless steel structures attempt to ‘float’ the stone, while giving a sense of movement with intricately constructed hinges and mechanisms.  Some of the pendants involve cut-outs from airplane safety instructions that speak quite literally to being ‘in the air,’ being en route while at the same time being in danger. The tension between the pending catastrophe described in these little vignettes and the optimistic ‘smiley’ graphics, is captured in the metal frames. According to Stern-Schocken, In the Air was inspired by the design philosophy put forward in « NONOBJECT » – a book by designers Branko Lukić and Barry M. Kātz (MIT Press, 2011) in which they state:   »Nonobject is an approach to design that takes advantage of technical innovation but is not driven by it. It is human centered but doesn´t pander to the market. It starts not with the user or the object, but with the space between. »

EXPO ‘In Between’ – A-Galerii, Talinn (Estonia) – 13 Avril-6 Mai 2013

The work of Lisa Kröber (Diploma 2010 Hochschule-Trier) will be shown from 13 April to 6 May 2013 at A-Galerii, Talinn.    Today – 12 April – is the opening at 6 pm.

Dreams full of lightness, cloudy moments, impossible to catch.
They fly away like birds in the sky.
You follow their way untill you can´t see them anymore.
Wondering if they will ever come back.
And then you´re just left behind,
between clouds and the air,
between dreams and wishes,
between worlds.

 Worlds, too many worlds… and it´s just one.

 Thoughts in your head, in your heart, in your hand.
Thoughts between tears of memories and laughter of love.
Between colours of black, colours of light, of live, black lights.
Thoughts between fallen hearts and rising moments.

EXPO ‘Entwined’ – Konstfack, Stockholm (SE) – 11-18 Avril 2013

Entwined – a group exhibition  Students at Ädellab, Konstfack were asked to take an experiential approach to the theme chains and links, producing jewelryart.    The result will be exhibited at Konstfack, with an opening/vernissage on the 11th of April from 5pm. A speech from professor Karen Pontoppidan will be made at 6pm.

A chain is a series of connected links which are typically made of metal. But it can also be a food chain, mountain chain or a chain of thought. It is in this wider sense the students have approached the theme.

‘Sand’ by Catarina Hällzon at Four Gallery (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Catarina Hällzon makes sketches with glue in the sand of the shores. In a playful and poetic way her gravel drawings turns into chain elements that are put together into wearable sculptures. By casting the grain she interrupts the movement and captures the shape. Four is looking forward meeting the summer with the exhibition Sand and Catarina Hällzon’s documentation of the shores of past summers.

”I let the sand pass through my fingers, a transient form took off and I am trying to catch it”

« Remembering the light playing in the sand as a child, the feeling of sand straining through my fingers… 
I strain the sand between my fingers, drawing shapes with the grit. Passing forms appear and I am trying to catch them. I draw a shape in the sand; I draw it directly with what will hold them together. I document the movement in making, the very essence of a form appearing. I then link my drawings together, the links and the empty holes are getting wearable together.
I am trying to catch shapes on the move. By building and casting shapes out of sand and then unite them using traditional jewellery making techniques I formed pieces that for a moment is left for your imagination.
